Seriously R2. You seem like the kind of person who would look after her personal health.

Do you subscribe to any specific herbs etc?

Had a little bout this summer that turned out to be liver problems.

(Unrelated to alcohol as you might be thinin Oldtimer.)

Went to the local quack a few times and gobbled down some of his antibiotics before waking up and visiting a naturopath (spelling) and starting an herbal therapy that has made me feel better than I have in a long time.

The question would be open to anyone else who may take a proactive approach to health on this site.

The guy I see is in Lacombe Alberta. His name is Bevin Sayler.

As for the fruits and veggies R2. Kinda hard to find any with and taste any more. Not to mention the cropping practices adopted by most chem/fert happy farmers these days. My mom gave me some tomatoes this fall that I ate up like candy. No comparison to those we buy in the local grocery store. Can't wait to finally have a garden again next year. This moving thing has not allowed time or space for some of that good old home based medifood.

Don't drink much pop or any coffee, and stay away from pain killers. No where near the booze of days gone by except when I read some of your posts :p

Do you feel confident that the multivitamins you use are not simply being pumped through your system? Lots of filler in the over the counter ones I hear.

Oh Lacombe , The lady I heard about is in Bashaw.
Milk Thisle is good for liver. The vitamins we use are called Nature Made,no preserves, flavours, colours, yeast etc.

One of the combo's my guy suggested contains milk thistle along with psylium, licorice (not my favouite twizzler variety), cascara sagrada, red clover, kelp, dandelion, and ginko. The other one includes Mugwort, wormwood, and Elcampane.

Don't have a clue what most of this stuff is --- sounds a bit like Harry Potter food, but hell it's all just healthy food after all, isn't it.

Oh yeah R2 as far as that liver flush. Excuse my candid nature but something in the stuff he sells me makes me flush a couple extra times each day. I can feel those heavy metals leaving my liver and my brain each and every time.

Eat a balanced diet of whole foods the way Nature made them.
If the food has a label and you can't pronounce some ingredients, don't eat it.
If you can leave the food on your kitchen counter for a week and nothing grows on it, don't eat it(with a few exceptions).
Many vitamins/minerals pills flow through your system because they aren't in an available form.

There is an old cowboy (call him Prairie Dog) here that lives in the retirement home- but spends his afternoons at the local water hole playing cards and just keeping up with the happenings...Usually consumes 4-5 shots of Black Velvet before he catchs the bus home- usually with a mickey of BV in his back pocket...

Well anyway a couple of weeks ago, when I went in the waterhole, he was there- but drinking orange juice...Said the Doc told him to quit drinking or he would die....Poor fella got no sympathy from anyone- he heard every one of these health guotes of fedup2's and a few more...We decided he probably wasn't going to live any longer not drinking- but it would sure seem like it- and then it was going to cost his wife twice as much to bury him because they'd need twice the embalming fluid....

Good thing most cowboys have a pretty fatalistic attitude toward death...

I have a friend who is 86 & I help him butcher a few hogs occasionally. This man uses everything but the squeal. He lives on meat & potatoes, & has a couple of drinks a day. He doesn’t smoke. Pork sausage, red meats, & whatever he feels like eating. Everything is fried in lard. He doesn’t use any oils like soy etc. He is probably in better shape than I am!

I believe that if a person does everything in moderation, you can eat whatever you want excluding those with preexisting conditions like, sugar, blood pressure, etc problems. Many of those things are genetic. Seems simple, if it bothers you, don’t eat it!

The man I mentioned above loves to joke & laugh. You never know what the guy is going to pull next. That to me is the secret to a long healthy life. Laughter has always been the best medicine, while stress is your body’s worst enemy. If you have ever watched someone suffering from depression, you can see these people age before your eyes. You can see their health going to hell. It doesn’t make a difference what they eat! Keep a positive attitude. If you forgot how to smile, practice in front of a mirror. The rewards are unlimited! Remember, a smile is worth nothing until it is given to someone. :D
Have a great week.

Good post, especially the part about humor in one's life adding to longevity. I think George Burns and Bob Hope were both over 100 when they died.
I have a relative who is 92 and eats ham and eggs quite frequently for breakfast. And there is no telling how much he's eaten that was fried in that good ole natural hog lard.
