Many dumb practices and policies led to this, but few were as egregious as the role of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Bush Administration saw this coming in 2003 and pushed to reform Fannie’s and Freddie’s practices, but they were stymied in Congress – primarily by Democrats Christopher Dodd in the Senate and Barney Frank in the House, who both insisted there was nothing wrong with what Fannie and Freddie were doing.

Did deregulation of financial institutions cause this? No. The idea that Republicans under Bush deregulated like mad is pure fiction. I wish it were the truth! We would all have been a lot better off. The mortgage market collapsed because it was built on a house of cards to begin with, and that house of cards exploited a lot of poor people by encouraging them to take on debt they were not prepared to handle. A lot of them spent thousands on mortgage payments only to lose their homes in the end because they could not afford their obligations. They ended up with no equity whatsoever. These folks would have been better off living in apartments and paying rent that fit within their budgets.

Perhaps the cruelest irony of all is that the federal government responded to this with an act that tightened the screws on banks – introducing all kinds of new requirements and regulations that did nothing to make things better. And what was this new act called? Dodd-Frank. That’s right. The two Democrats who prevented the reform of Fannie and Freddie back in 2003 got to write the big new law that has predictably made things worse, and even got to put their names on it.

How many times has this been pointed out on here and the the BIG D CULTIST Oldtimer keeps bring the crap argument of the BUSH BUST.

When one is in denial like the Dems are, it does not seem to matter how plainly it is stated they don't understand because they DON"T WANT TO.

Just like the Democrat story about Bush lieing about WMD. They seem to forget all the Democrats that swore up and down that Saddam had them and he had to be dealt with. The Democrat Quotes have been all over the internet for years but they still deny the facts Once Bush did what Clinton was too busy to do, because he was trying to keep up with the Kennedys and their womenizing history, even though it was him that said something needed to be done, they turned the tables on Bush and claimed he LIED and denied they ever said a thing about WMD in Iraq.

We will spend the next week listening to them DENY THEIR PART and blaming Republicans for their lack of success on the economy even thou Obama and the Dems had TOTAL CONTROL to do anything they wanted for two years and did nothing but saddle the US Citizens with 5 trillion more dollars of debt and deficits as far as the eye can see.

The RIVER OF DENIAL will be running DEEP and WIDE this week and floating on it will be barges of Democrat Bull Crap.

BTW I want everyone to remember, as they are professing how great the economy was under Clinton as they will be count on it, remember who was controling the Congress (IE THE PURSE STRINGS) under Clinton?

Also remember when the Democrats are bashing Bush for how his presidency ended in disaster who controlled the Congress (IE THE PURSE STRINGS) when the wheels went off the car in the last two years of his Administration?

Third Remember that Obama claimed the Recession was over in the summer of 2009 before the stimulus money hit the markets so that nearly trillion dollar debt did not bring the US out of recession. It in fact SLOWED THE RECOVERY by slowing job growth as reflected in the Unemployment rates staying well above 8% for Obama's whole first term and is project to stay there for years to come because of the US DEBT and Obama's business killing regulations.

Remember this in NOV too.

Geeezzzz............ This site has gotten so nasty, personal, and political that it's not even fun coming here any more.

So here's my opinion on it all... Republicans can blame Democrats, and Democrats can blame Republicans, but it won't make any difference.

The economy is run by the big banks, and the same pirates that were in charge during the Bush years are still in charge during the Obama years. They've bought the politicians, they've plundered the economy, and they're still making out like bandits today.

And the American people spend their time calling each other names and fighting about what some politician has or hasn't done, while actually the politicians can't get a darn thing done unless the bankers say so.

Start talking to each other instead of just calling each other names like a bunch of children. IT IS NOT A SIGN OF WEAKNESS TO LISTEN TO EACH OTHER. There is such a thing as middle ground, and meeting in the middle for the good of the country is not against the law. There's a bigger prize than "being right". That prize is the future of your country. Don't just argue with each other while it slips away. See the bigger picture.

Elect someone who can audit the Fed, clean up the corruption, and put the running of the country back into the hands of the citizens and then there may be a chance.

As Haymaker says... good luck.

With all due respect, Kato, the bankers had nothing to do with what I think
is one of the biggest corruption plots in the Obama administration. That
is Fast and Furious. People were killed because of this scheme that,
thankfully, backfired on the Obama Administration. Now if we can only
get to the bottom of who all knew about it and get rid of those people
in government.

Also, the doctor that aided in getting Bin Laden is still, to my knowledge,
in a prison over there. That has nothing to do with bankers. And what
about the drones Obama is using that are killing people. Tell me how the
bankers have anything to do with that, if you would, please.

And what about the Black Panthers getting off scot-free for voter intimidation?
That is just a few of the things this administration has
not stepped up to the plate about.

I find this forum very informative. As for being polite, well, this is
Political Bull and as Macon has said, "PB is a free-for-all".

"Elect someone who can audit the Fed, clean up the corruption, and put the running of the country back into the hands of the citizens and then there may be a chance."
  :tiphat:
That is definitely what we are striving for, but it won't happen without
a major change in government. We cannot survive another 4 years the
way things stand.

AMEN Kato.... I can't believe that these folks are looking thru such rose colored glasses and are so gullible that just because someone from the right dreams up an excuse- they immediately back it....

I saw some refreshing attitudes the other day- in talking to some young businessmen who are staunch R cult followers-- but can see exactly what you said about the banks and worlds financial world...

Kato this is Political...so yeah it gets political in here LOL
as for the name calling yeah it gets bad but when you have the moderator doing as much as anyone you really cant curb the personal attacks.

I and many others have tried talking to the "other side" but as the state we are now in, the divide is very deep and wide and I see no place for middle ground. Am I willing, yes I will but some of the issues involve morals and I will not compromise my beliefs. I also know the goal of islam and there is no compromise there either. So now where do you go ?

Gas prices tanked the economy plain and simple....

I would agree... that and careful manipulation of the derivatives market..

as some woke up to the fact that the high energy cost and high material cost were going to cause inflation.,... a hand slowly unwrapped the fact that inflation would wipe out any perceived profit in derivatives.. and their marketability plummeted.. leaving the mortgage sellers with no market to peddle an overflowing portfolio of marginal mortgages..

the question is who pulled the rug out from under US... ?
