If Haggard is guilty, throw the book at him. If he has been framed, throw the book at the one who framed him.

Kerry is guilty. He deserves his consequences.

"I am voluntarily stepping aside from leadership so that the overseer process can be allowed to proceed with integrity," Haggard said in a written statement. "I hope to be able to discuss this matter in more detail at a later date."

sure wish Kerry had enough integrity to resign.....

this guy is accussed by....
Jones, who said he is gay, said he was upset when he discovered Haggard and the New Life Church had publicly opposed same-sex marriage.,.....Jones, whose allegations were first aired on KHOW-AM radio in Denver, claimed Haggard paid him to have sex nearly every month over three years. Jones also said Haggard snorted methamphetamine before their sexual encounters to heighten his experience.

the guy resigned.....and (if) the allegation proves true, he should be disiplined, for the scandle, drug, use and adultry.....not only the church rules but the laws that were broken...

(if) it is a false allgation then Jones should also be disiplined.....especially if his lies distorted the views of the voters, and change the outcome of a controversial elction issue...

See again no coservative double standard......just a differant situation.....with differant outcomes.....

Nothing worse than a hypocrite. If it's true, and you say it is , it's the worst of the worst. He's not only a nasty queer but he's a disgusting liar and unloyal to his God, his wife, his kids and his church members. To whom much is given , much is required (and in my way of thinking , much is the punishment.)

I really don't see the connection between Kerry and Haggard personally. I see a connection to Jim Baker, Jimmy Swaggart , and Haggard although I don't think baker or swaggart were queer.

For some strange reason I bet the cult "focus on the family" and its leader James Dobson will remain silent on this issue.
I doubt it. Why would you say that?

I doubt it also. If Dobson does remain silent on this he could be accused of tribalism over rightousness.

If you are going to claim to be rightous and promote it, you have to be it or you are a hypocrit.

I feel sorry for Haggart and his personal struggle with sin, but it does show again, the failure of man with sin. It happens to all of us (sin), including Bush, which is why we should never put complete faith in man, but in the values and ethics they should represent. We have to have a balance of power to achieve this and Bush's admnistration and republican congress has tried to consolidate power and limit oversight to "win the war of terror".

We should all be wary of those who would limit oversight of themselves because of the implicit reasoning that they have the a corner on morality. It just doesn't happen. With a republican lead Congress not giving oversight to the FDA, the USDA, the financial sector, the ethics committee of the House and Senate, and others in favor of a lack of oversight, we all lose.

I like your last two paragraphs Econ they are right on target especially the part about having the corner on morality. IMO no one does not even we posters on Ranchers net.

In response to Dobson/Haggard here is an excerpt from an article on the differences

Dobson and Haggard also part ways over same-sex marriage. Focus on the Family strongly opposes any legal recognition of gay couples. While Haggard supports federal and state constitutional amendments that limit marriage to a man and a woman, he's more measured in his view of domestic partnerships.

"If the state wants to provide people who are in a different type of relationship the same benefits as marriage, that's up to the community," he says. "As a Christian, I would be hesitant to do anything that would deny people medical insurance or the ability to visit their partner in a hospital."

Haggard agrees with Lawrence v. Texas, the 2003 Supreme Court decision that struck down anti-sodomy laws and, unlike Dobson, is generally cautious about codifying religious teaching in law.

"We believe within the church that sexuality should be only between a married man and a woman," Haggard says. "But there are many things that I teach in the church that I would never want integrated into civil law."

I am sure there is a point to what you say,...but ...my sympathy is with his Family and friends, that rushed to protect him......and as I Christian we are to love the sinner.....and not the sin....but,... he abused the trust, it is a little harder to forgive.....

I just saw the clip with him "answering questions" with his wife sitting next to him in the car....Gave me the same disgusted feeling as when McGreevey admitted his being Gay....By the time he finished answering I was not buying his version......

So now that he has fallen, it is up to him to square it away and deal with the repercussions.....and let the facts come out.....

Haggard wanted to run for the House as a republican.

Bad thing is, they probably would have welcomed him into the tent. Just another Foley time bomb.

He should be more in the Barney Frank camp in my opinion. What say you about him?
