Went to the county Lincoln Day dinner tonight got slammed when we got there. I knew our State rep was going to run for State Senate and one guy hit me up earlier in the week about running for his rep seat. Well if I would have stood up and said I was running for his district seat I probably left with 5 checks in my pocket. Then I got hit with the guilt trip about the other two that will probably run and was told I do a better job.
But I said I trying to sell and move clear across the state. Well before the night was over I told the few that I would think about kit as May 15th the last day to file. Think the crowd was a lot easier in the barn at 11PM as I suckled a couple new calves…….
Legislature is 40 days on odd years and a 22 day budget session on even
If you have the time for it, give it a shot...It is an eyeopener...After about 10-15 days at the legislature- and total frustration has set in-- you begin wondering how this state/country ever survived as long as it did
Interestingly you mentioned the Lincoln Day dinners--as an Independent office holder I got invited to both parties events- and usually attended both including the Lincoln Day dinners....
The thing I remember most about those dinners were the cost ($100 back then  - probably $500 now with inflation :???: )....Interestingly I found that the Repub doings were always way more expensive then the Dem dinners- and usually fancy catered events- that the same group of folks attended time after time- where the Dem dinners were usually $10-20 cost- and many times the whole meal was fixed by the Lady Dems....And many times they got folks to come just for the social event, like the fall turkey dinner- since the cost was not out of sight and the meal was actually worth what you were paying....I always thought the Repubs were missing out on bringing many into their folds that way.....
The Montana Dems are all aglow- as their annual state dinner- the Mansfield/Metcalf Dinner, April 5th (which is in beautiful downtown Butte, America this year  ) has just found out that both Hillary and Obama will attend....Tickets are sold out- and they are now selling $40 tickets to stand in the balconey and watch the muckey mucks eat and listen to the rah rah speechs...
And no- I won't be there either....
