I wrote this poem in 2002 when it was about the same as this year. We had some monster fires went thru this country that year and burned for a couple of days. It was more stressful back then as we were on the beginning of a 7 year drought and hopefully now we're getting close to the end. As they say in this country, " Wait till next Year".

I climbed aboard my 4-wheeler
To go and check some bog.
The wind was from the northwest
And the smoke was thick as fog.

Half the country is on fire
And there's little relief in sight.
There's no clouds in the morning
And it don't cool off at night.

The temperature shows over 100
Just like it's been for days,
Seems like this drought continues
No matter how hard a fellow prays.

The hoppers took the garden,
The fires took the grass.
With no water in the dams
How long can a fellar last.

I'm still a firm believer
That God will come back soon.
But right now it feels hot as hell
And it's barely even noon.

It kind of makes me wonder
And only time will tell.
What God will say when he gets here
And finds we've been livin in hell!

excellent timing my friend, you don't know how close those words hit home right now. I was tempted to write one about the fires, don't need to , you already did. When the fire yesterday was breathing on the neighbors house and the hoppers are flying in front of the flames to get away from it, then you can't see or hardly breath from the smoke, you don't know if the line held yet cause you can't see it, these are things that make people to start to believe. I hate to say it because some on here will once again come down on me, but fire is the DEVILS own tool. If you don't want to believe that, I have a job for you in the morning, we will go visit with him in the morning.

Very appropriate poem, Empty Pockets. We just came from church this evening. It seemed to be the general consensus there, that this is HOT, but Hell would be a whole lot hotter. The worst of it is, in that place the extended forecast would have no relief in sight, either. :? :( At least here on earth, it is bound to rain again someday.

The critter survived. We pulled her out and hosed her down with the fire wagon and watered her. Next morn she was out grazing. Don't know why she had to try and drink at that boggy little hole, there's pretty good water just 1/2 mile from her to the south and another good dam just east of there. Might have been the 117 degree heat we had Sunday.

As for the poem, we may leave God, but God never leaves us. Sorry, I don't mean to preach.
