I wrote this poem in 2002 when it was about the same as this year. We had some monster fires went thru this country that year and burned for a couple of days. It was more stressful back then as we were on the beginning of a 7 year drought and hopefully now we're getting close to the end. As they say in this country, " Wait till next Year".
I climbed aboard my 4-wheeler
To go and check some bog.
The wind was from the northwest
And the smoke was thick as fog.
Half the country is on fire
And there's little relief in sight.
There's no clouds in the morning
And it don't cool off at night.
The temperature shows over 100
Just like it's been for days,
Seems like this drought continues
No matter how hard a fellow prays.
The hoppers took the garden,
The fires took the grass.
With no water in the dams
How long can a fellar last.
I'm still a firm believer
That God will come back soon.
But right now it feels hot as hell
And it's barely even noon.
It kind of makes me wonder
And only time will tell.
What God will say when he gets here
And finds we've been livin in hell!
