I have been reading some of the posts about religion and some of the questions and assumtions we have about each other.....
I was raised going to many different churchs/synagogue/temple. My Mother wanted me to be able to choose which path to God was for me. To her the only way was to make sure I saw as many for atleast 3 months so when I came of age I could with an informed mind follow the path to God.
Yes I choose Southern Baptist to worship in...why because that was the "family" church of my now ex. Yes I had lots of questions and didnt follow along with the sheep....which upset some oh well they got over it...when I left. I went to another Southern Baptist church because they focused on finding the answers in the bible then praying....I still wasnt home.
Well here I am in BFE I have 4 choices in church...The big Southern Baptist...hmmmm nope I dont have the fancy clothes or the big pocketbook they want, the "peopleschurch" no they are really methodists and as long as its in moderation its ok..not for me, Mormon LOL yeah ok I agree with alot of what they say but sorry my path to God is through Him and I. so that leaves the "cowboy church" ....I went to one in NC it was very good but this one is nothing like that. They believe your beliefs change based on whats going on.....ie.. no drinking .....unless its XIT rodeo, follow the 10 commandments....ooppsss brother bill had an affair with sister sue now wife betty lue is sueing for divorce . We have to stand behind brother bill ...he paid for the new church van....

Which lead me to search what am I???? What I found about blew me over......LOL
I am 100% in the central tenets of Orthodox Quakers

Some of the questions reminded me of some of the posts here.....If you dare take the quiz ...share if you like but I think you might find some assumtions we hold are off base.

Ok I am off to find out what a Quaker is....and then go back and see what the next 2 or 3 they have me as......

My faith does not quite match any particular worship to the T.

My daughters were raised much the way you were. The eldest and her husband now attend an interdenominational. The youngest does too.

I'm mainline to liberal Christian--surprise, surprise- being brought up Methodist...And its no surprise either I'm not into Hinduism

What did surprise me was that my beliefs would be that close to the Mormons- as I probably know less about the Mormon religion than any of the main US religions... I have several good friends that are Mormons (couple are Jack Mormons because they like a beer)- but I guess we never have talked Religion much...I do know they just finished a beautiful new Church in town...

Sage do you know why Baptists will not have sex standing up?

Answer: They think that people might think they were dancing.

Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion with Jewish-Christian roots. It has no creed. It affirms the worth of human beings, advocates freedom of belief and the search for advancing truth, and tries to provide a warm, open, supportive community for people who believe that ethical living is the supreme witness of religion.

If there is a very large Baptist church, then surely there's a smaller one somewhere.

Pray about it MsSage... ask God to show you and direct you to the church he has for you.

Where I grew up you were either southern baptist or catholic within 12 miles of home, pentecost 15-20 miles and if you wanted something else you had to drive 30 miles from home.

Mssage: I will pass on a true story about a church.
I did not witness this but my father told me the story. There was a Church in the community and was about 100 yards from a country store that my Father and Mother built and run. It was the focal point of the community. Everyone knew if they needed help my Father would help them. Now here is the story about the Church. It was named the Oak Valley Baptist-Church of Christ. Quiet a name huh. Proable doomed to fail from the start because of the name. They had a young fire and brimstone preacher there that would try to scare you to Heaven to keep you out of hell. This would have been in the late thirtys. Any way this man moved to the community and started to attend Church there. He had moved from a community that only had a Church of Christ Church. One Sunday morning he walked down the aisle and informed the preacher and the members of the Church that he wanted to move his letter to this Church. I as a young person always wondered about the letter, I never saw one or had one. Any way the young preacher told the man that he would have to be Baptized into the Church and the letter could not be accepted. An argument ensued and the man wanting to move his letter stated he would go home and pray and what ever the Lord told him he would do. He did not come to Church again. One cold morning the Preacher was at my Fathers store warming his backside on the wood heater after my Father had put $2.00 dollars worth of gas in his Model A that he never paid for. The man that tried to join the Church walked in all bundled up from the cold and started unwrapping. The preacher said Well Brother So and So the last time we talked you was going to talk to the Lord about Membership in our Church He snickered and said to the man And what did the Lord tell you. The man replied the Lord said not to worry I have being trying to get in that Church for years.
I have been very happy in my life without a Church membership or attending Church.I believe in God. If I go to Heavan it will be because he loved me and had mercy on me. If I go to Hell then so be it. Could be niether exist. Who knows it is all on Faith because there is not any visiable proof of any of it.

You're right, Hurley, it is on faith. However, I'd disagree about there being nothing visible to back that faith up.

Well you see it as you like and I see it as I like. I try to live my life with honesty and respect for my fellow man. I would like to have the reputaion so they could say, "If Hurley told you a hen dipped snuff you could look under her wing and find her Garrett."
