Big difference from back then. 1989? Were they in trouble then?

They weren't on the verge of going belly up and getting taxpayer money.

Yep-- but we know- that GW being the "good old boy" he is- that this money he got from AIG over the years would have not had any influence on his and Paulsons decision to come up with and promote the Bush Bailout plan :???: And the big payout to AIG :???: Now don't we... :???:    :p

He already got the money and he was leaving office, so why should he?

Remember, OT, the President does not make the laws. Congress does; in this case a Democrat congress.

Bush got $200,000 for 8 years in office and Obama got $110,000 for 2. Looks like Obama was gaining ground pretty fast.

So why you folks blaming Obama for getting campaign contributions from AIG-eh :???: Obama wasn't even elected when Bush came out with the Bush Bailout plan

You just won't admit your annointed Saint George was just as big or bigger a crook than any of the others...That showed up from day one with all the Abramoff money he had/took....

Nope it sure looks to me like AIG called in their marker they'd been priming the pump for years for- and GW paid them back well...

Do some research on Obama and AIG and Citigroup OT. You'll see the ties are a little more scary than what went on with Bush.

Most on here advocated giving them nothing as Bailouts, and there are different reasons for their reasoning.

How much did Bush take from Abramoff? You make it sound pretty bad, so would someone that takes more than that from someone be an even BIGGER crook?

A company run by the former chief executive of American International Group Inc. is suing the government for $25 billion in damages over its taxpayer bailout of the big insurer.

Former AIG CEO Maurice "Hank" Greenberg's current company — Starr International — filed lawsuits Monday in federal courts against the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The suits accuse the government of taking valuable assets from AIG's shareholders without their consent or fair compensation, in exchange for the government's 80% stake in the company. The suit says the government's actions violate parts of the 5th Amendment.

Much of the $182 billion in rescue money that AIG got from the government went to pay the New York-based firm's obligations to big banks.

Starr International was the largest shareholder in AIG. It is suing on behalf of AIG and the AIG shareholders and says the $25 billion or more in damages it wants represents the market value of the 563 million shares the government received, as of last Jan. 14.

"The government is not empowered to trample shareholder and property rights even in the midst of a financial emergency," Starr International says in the suits. It contends that the government discriminated in its action against AIG, by refusing to provide loans or loan guarantees or access to the Fed's discount borrowing window as it had to other financial institutions such as Citigroup Inc.

The AIG shareholders didn't agree "to the proposed taking of their property rights," the lawsuits say. They were filed against the government in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington and against the New York Fed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

hopefully the courts will rule in favor of the private property rights of the stockholders.. and not in favor of the big banks and government self interest..

How about Dodd? The rest?

Hypocrisy at it's finest.

As usual oldtimer did not read your post in its entirety, he just read a question about obama and went off on a tangent AGAIN. Totally missing """the rest""" He has to hit his blame Bush button at least once a day or his one brain cell will stop functioning properly :D :D :D :D

Let's see Bush was in the Oval Office for 8 years so that is $25,000 per year, Obama just over two years so that is about $50,000 per year. Of the top four on the list Looks like Obama Schumer and Dodd have alot more to pay back for than Bush. BUT thanks for showing us how far you will go to defend the Dems Oldtimer you truly stuck your foot in it this time.
