The sad thing about this storm is that in some areas you will have a second storm. The human storm, who knows what it will all be but it is coming. The bright spot is that there will be great acts of kindness.
Probably it is hard for the normal person to even comprehend the devastation this has caused, pictures won't tell it all.
boats are no match for the storm surges..
in Queens 50 homes burnt because fire fighting equipment couldn't get to the homes due to flooding, and water pressure was lost due to power outages..
we had a similar problem here a few years back as a few dozen homes were lost,. now all of our local fire departments have jet fire fighting boats they have one jet pump to run the boat, and another to shoot water to the fire..
it is hard to describe.. but in Sea side heights beach actual sand has swamped the towns beach area.. some with several feet of sand filling the homes and streets.
similar situation in Cape May to the south of us
yes that is a normal street sign.. the friends we stayed with daughter has a picture of her standing by the street sign.. it is below her waist.. about three foot at most sticking out of the sand..
