Where was GIPSA?

Tyson Foods Inc. said Tuesday it will pay $42.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by 85 hog farmers as well as close two processing plants cutting hundreds of jobs and shifting production from Bentonville to Russellville.

The settlement comes just before an Aug. 1 trial and after nearly three years of fighting by farmers who were left holding bills for hog farm improvements when Tyson canceled their contracts. The settlement, after attorneys’ fees and taxes, still won’t be enough to pay farmers’ bills, plaintiffs said Tuesday.

GIPSA is the organization the packers use to make it look like they have to follow the law. In reality, GIPSA's lack of timely response if any at all on many, many issues plays right into the packer's hands. It is as if GIPSA is their working glove that hasn't seen any results from their labor.

Its Gyps ya. The U.S. government should shut down that agency just like they want to shut down Fema. They don't implement any of the GAO reports, lie to Congress, want funding as if they ever accomplish anthing for the producer, fund market power excusing economic studies, and generally work for big agribusiness. Why should taxpayers fund them? The leadership at GYPS-YA should be investigated for fraud but the Secretary of Agriculture and the Congressmen who support him are so deep in Agribusiness pockets that it looks more like Mexican politics than anything else. The misuse or non use of their power should be a crime and the decision makers should be thrown in jail. Their retirement plans paid by taxpayers should be used as compensation for the damage they are allowing to avg. producers.

The courts they go to are no better. They have no understanding of economics or market power and how the law is to prevent its exercise. They are in way over their head when it comes to the interpretation of Section 202 of the act as evidenced by the appellate court's decision in Pickett and their misuse of the Robinson Patman Act.

I am beginning to wonder if the "conservative judges" appointed by the Republican leadership are conservative in name only or social causes just so they can allow the frauds in the agriculture and other industries to continue and line the pockets of the people who appointed them.

We need fewer politicians and more statesmen to correct these problems but it seems, except in rare instances, we have neither. They have been absent from their oversight responsibilities for the last 5 years and instead whisper to Johanns so that their coffers are filled and they can buy the next election with their silly reasoning instead of their on the job results. Protect the status quo and listen to the "money lenders" in the capital instead of the constituents at home.

Hey, just thinking out loud.

As agman said, results count. Rhetoric is cheap.
