In the US. it is beef because of US packers ,wholesalers, retailers, not wanting to label a verified sourced product, Canadian Beef. Same will be all of the above products. Look what has happened to pork produced in Canada.

Marsh: All fresh-cut meats now 100% U.S.
June 12, 2009

Marsh Supermarkets has announced that, beginning immediately, beef, pork and chicken cut fresh at its stores will come only from within the United States.

The background

In March, grocery stores were required to begin labeling meat with the country of origin, a requirement under the federal 2002 Farm Bill. Any country the animal passes through or is processed in must be indicated. A single package of meat would say U.S., Canada and Mexico if the animal were born in Canada, raised in the U.S. and processed in Mexico.

Marsh spokeswoman Connie Gardner said the company, which is based in Indianapolis and has 99 stores in Indiana and Ohio, heard from many customers that they'd prefer meat from the U.S.

She said most of the fresh meat handled in-store was already from this country, but the decision to switch to 100 percent was driven by consumer demand. She said it will not affect the price of meat sold at the store, Gardner said.

What's included

Beef, pork and chicken that are processed and sold in-store will all bear a sticker noting the meat's U.S.-only origin.

Prepackaged meats that come from other companies to be sold by Marsh will not be affected by this decision, Gardner said.

The reasoning

"We have been diligently working since September of last year to make sure every piece of meat we cut comes from the U.S.A.," Gardner said. "So we were already doing it for most meat and now we're ready to announce it."
