Which is the environmentalist?

LOOK OVER THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING TWO HOUSES AND SEE IF YOU CAN TELL WHICH BELONGS TO AN ENVIRONMENTALIST.

HOUSE # 1
A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

HOUSE # 1 (20 room energy guzzling mansion) is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker) Al Gore.

HOUSE # 2 (model eco-friendly house) is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. Also known as "the Texas White House," it is the private residence of the President of the United States, George W Bush.

Very interesting info, LB. Not surprising, though. Al Gore is nothing but a hypocrite. Typical liberal - wanting to tell others to do things that he's not willing to do himself.

Now wait a minute!! Since I'm the ' token' liberal here you'd be proud of me

I have a BIG house and I have solar panels, the rain water from the roof is recycled thru to use on the gardens & yards and I have the geo-heat/cool system for the house! In fact the way the house was built is acts a huge vent system anyway. Open the upstairs windows...turn on the ceiling fans and it's cool until way on up in the summer. FYI: We have temps that reach 100+ here in the part of the world on a regular basis!!

So some us do practice some of what we preach. But yes I'm a gas hog like everyone else also. But I work @ home now so I've cut my driving down to less than 10miles/week!

To be honest NO ONE can be 100% enviromentally friendly...it's impossible!!

Ok..attack me for having these things...but I had to stand up for my ' kind' a little bit here!!!

I actually commend you for living like you want and doing what you want. That is the American way. The reason I dislike the Liberal philosophy in general is because many of the Liberal elitists try to tell the rest of us how to live our lives, even though they have no intentions of cutting back themselves. Al Gore is a prime example of, "Do what I say, not what I do."

It is perfectly fine to live as grandly as within a person's means. Just don't be living in high-falutin' style yourself, and condemn others for wanting to do the same.

LB - definitely an interesting point you make and one which I agree with. I never moved up and live in a fairly small house which is big enough most days except when I try to entertain. It's okay in the summer cuz we have a screened in porch and a nice front yard for parties. Winter we hole up and only have a couple of people over at a time.

The McMansion phenomenon around here is amazing. I have a friend, single man, living in 4300 square feet - of junk. He keeps his house at 62 degrees and recycles religiously but still, what's a single person who NEVER entertains doing in 4300 sq ft?

R2, With all due respect, I think you and Kola TOTALLY missed the point of LB's post.

No one is questioning whether an individual may or may not own a huge house or the subsequent energy that it takes to heat/cool it.

The subject is about those that have an agenda and attempt to force feed it on others while not adhereing to his very own purported ideals.

It was the very same Al Gore that professed to an attempt to outlaw the large SUV gas guzzlers when his campaign purchased over a dozen for his campaign entourage.

This is about hypocrisy in general, not about energy consumption!

No you missed My point.

All I have is the words in your post. Should you actually have a point, besides the fact that you must stand up for other liberals, and that "no one can be 100% environmentally friendly", or that some "practice what they preach", I guess I did miss it.

That one, plus any others that you thought you might have had in the past.

But it was cluttered between the excuses you were making for Al. :???:

How many speeches did you give in the last few years on "Global warming" and the consequences that man has contributed?

How many movies did you make on the subject?

How much money did you make from your "Green" credits?

How many times have you been in the NY Times this year?

We don't care how energy friendly you are. YOU are not the point!

What are you saying, besides that politicians are hypocrits, which we knew already?

You seem to use the word, "WE", pretty loosely.

At least one on here didn't see AL as a hypocrit, and in fact, defended him.

I am also saying that we each should have the freedom to guzzle as much energy as we can personally afford.

Just don't go around telling others that they don't have the same right.

I'm guessing you mean ME...how did I defend Al Gore? :???: :???: :???:

You're always wanting proof...show me where I defended Al Gore?

No...not one bit!

I was referring to my 'kind' in reference to the boards here since I seem to be the 'token' liberal thinker' here.

I have no problem whatsoever being associated to the FREELY ELECTED PRESIDENT...none a'tall!!!

looks like kolo is up to her old tricks again

1 trying to make a point and failing

2 flaunting her wealth and possesions. or attempting to.

3 screaming for proof that is right in front of her eyes

poor baby
