Here are a couple bulls that I like very much and really like their dams. Both bulls will be in our sale this spring. Whcih one do you like better?

LMG Gills Sly Dawg 8545 and his dam LMG Sara 817
His EPDs are:
1.7/39/71/23/42/11/.00/.19

The second one has the best eye appeal but I like the big barrel of the first one. More than likely if I were to be at your sale I would be most interested in that big barrel calf. I'm sure either would suit my herd though.

Howdy!

I like the looks of LMG Gills Big Dawg 8536 the best. Realizing that photos never give the exact same perspectives as actually being with the animals, it looks to me like Big Dawg has a longer loin area and a more muscular hind quarter. That's where the higher priced cuts come from as you know.

How much emphasis are folks in your area putting on EPDs?

They look at the EPDs, but don't live by them. I would say that the most used EPD by our customers would be birthweight. If they are looking for a heifer bull they make sure he is. I have a herdsire that has way below average on growth EPDs, but sires very good bulls. Not this fall but the one a year ago, his sons were the highest average sire group sold. They want structural correctness, capacity, muscle, and good feet first.

#2 is a nice calf but I think for commercial purposes #1 is a lot thicker, the angle of the picture may take a little away from his hindquarter. #1's dam looks to be a little more feminine cow.

I think bull #2 just looks like a powerhouse. I really like him. He looks like he's got some extra length and a good strong top on him. I think he's also the better balanced bull and the muscle runs further down his leg. I bet he travels like a champ too. There's to much difference in the cow pictures for me to tell much. Can't see the udder of the one. What I can see of the cows looks good.

I may be wrong, and I'm too lazy to search back into the old posts to find the thread, but I think you posted pics of these two bulls along with several others at an earlier time. If that's correct, then I'm fairly certain that these two bulls were my picks out of the group. So, BRG, either I'm smart like you, or you're dumb like me. 8)

I like #1 better. His extra depth of body makes his rear-quarter look a bit shallower than the #2 bull. I think it's just deceiving and #1 is plenty deep and plenty thick at the same time. I'd give both of them a trailer-ride home without complaint. But only no cows to breed 'em to.

8536 gets my nod........lots of capacity & muscle; better balanced and has the eye appeal that adds value whether you're selling seedstock or stockers by the pound. I like the volume of his dam..... really would like to see her udder but from what I've seen of other cows you've posted it should be good. From your last post I really like the Red Dawg sire group; lots of capacity & guts but still seem to be correct with that extra bit of eye appeal.
