White House Health Proposal Claims
Myth vs. Fact: Setting the Record Straight

The White House has made numerous claims about its latest health care proposal, which is largely based on the Senate Democrats’ health care bill. Those assertions, however, are contradicted by the analysis of that legislation by the non-partisan and independent Congressional Budget Office, Joint Committee on Taxation and the Office of the Actuary at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Below is a list of some of the major myths being spread by the White House:

Myth #1: Insurances premiums will decrease

White House says:

“You will likely pay less---perhaps much less. If you buy coverage like you have today on your own, premiums are expected to drop by 14 to 20 percent. If you get coverage through your job, premiums could decline by up to 3 percent.”

But the facts say:

“CBO and JCT estimate that the average premium per person covered (including dependents) for new nongroup policies would be about 10 percent to 13 percent higher in 2016 than the average premium for nongroup coverage in that same year under current law.”

Myth #2: If you like the coverage you have, you can keep it

White House says:

“Nothing in the health reform bill will require you to change your coverage.”
“The legislation will not cause you to change the coverage you have at work today.”

But the facts say:

“Between 8 million and 9 million other people who would be covered by an employment-based plan under current law would not have an offer of such coverage under the proposal.”

Myth #3: Seniors’ Medicare benefits are protected

White House says:

“Your guaranteed Medicare benefits will not be cut.”
“Health insurance reform will not affect the choice of doctors you have today and it won’t affect your relationship with your doctor.”

But the facts say:

According to the Obama Administration’s own Medicare actuaries, the one-half trillion dollars in Medicare cuts “would cause Medicare payment rates to grow more slowly than…the providers’ cost of furnishing services to beneficiaries. Thus, providers…could find it difficult to remain profitable and might end their participation in the program (possibly jeopardizing access to care for beneficiaries).”

Myth #4: Many small businesses will receive tax breaks

White House says:

“Third, many small businesses will be able to get a tax credit to help cover the cost of the coverage they offer.”
“Your business taxes will not go up. Instead, you may be eligible for new tax credits to help offset the cost of covering your employees.”

But the facts say:

After increasing taxes by almost one half trillion for millions of Americans and small businesses, CBO predicts “A relatively small share (about 12 percent) of people with coverage in the small group market would benefit from that credit in 2016”

Myth #5: Health spending is capped for every American

White House says:

"And for the first time, no one will be required to pay more than a set percentage of their income on health care coverage.”
“For the first time in history, there will be limits on how much anyone will have to pay to receive health care coverage.”

But the facts say:

Only subsidy-eligible individuals would have their premiums and cost-sharing capped as a percentage of income. According to CBO, 90% of Americans would not be eligible for subsidies in 2016 and will not have limits on how much they will have to pay to receive health care coverage.

Myth #6: Those without access to employer-provided health coverage will get tax credits to purchase coverage on their own

White House says:

“Employees at small businesses that don’t offer coverage can get tax credits to purchase coverage.”

But the facts say:

CBO says that a little more than half the individuals purchasing health insurance on their own will be eligible for these subsidies in 2016.

Myth #7: Tens of millions of Americans will receive a tax credit to purchase health care

White House says:

“And depending upon your income, you may be among the tens of millions of Americans who will get a tax credit to help pay for your coverage.”

But the facts say:

According to CBO, less than 15 million of the 254 million people with health coverage in 2016 would be eligible for a subsidy.

Michele Bachmann: Congress Will Implement "Trick" to Pass Health Care Reform
Well, so much for a bipartisan strategy session on health care. Despite calls from the White House about bringing Republicans to the table to get their ideas into the debate, it looks like Democrats have already decided on a plan to pass their original legislation. Legislation Americans have soundly rejected from coast to coast.

Speaking at the National Health Policy Conference hosted by Academy Health and Health Affairs, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's senior health care adviser Wendell Primus said that Democratic leaders in Congress will implement a legislative "trick" to pass their very unpopular version of health care reform.

Mark Tapscott with the Washington Examiner writes that Congress Daily, which originally published the story, is a subscription-only publication, but provided a link to LifeNews.com, which provided these details:

"In comments reported by Congress Daily, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top health care aide Wendell Primus admitted top Democrats have already decided on the strategy to pass the Senate's pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

"Primus explained that the Senate will use the controversial reconciliation strategy that will have the House approve the Senate bill and both the House and Senate okaying changes to the bill that the Senate will sign off on by preventing Republicans from filibustering.

'The trick in all of this is that the president would have to sign the Senate bill first, then the reconciliation bill second, and the reconciliation bill would trump the Senate bill.

“'There's a certain skill, there's a trick, but I think we'll get it done,' Primus said."

Why propose a televised, bipartisan meeting on February 25th if the underlying plan has been to pass the Democrats' original health care proposal all along? Well, it's simple. President Obama wants to give the appearance of bipartisan cooperation without really caring at all. It's one PR stunt after another with this White House, and this latest action is a clear assault on the intelligence of the American people.

The Democratic leadership of this Congress and White House simply refuses to take no for an answer when it comes to a government takeover of your health care. They simply refuse to consider any idea being proposed by me or any of my Republican colleagues. Is this the leadership you want in Washington, or more importantly, the leadership you deserve?

Remember, under Fascism, private individuals continue to officially own private companies (Means of Production), but the government steps in with heavy regulation. These are the elements of Obama's plan.

NEWS BRIEF: "Obama unveils revised $1 trillion health plan: No public option", MSNBC News, February 22, 2010

"WASHINGTON - Starting over on health care, President Barack Obama knows his chances aren't looking much more promising ... A year after he called for a far-reaching overhaul, Obama unveiled his most detailed plan yet on Monday. The 10-year, $1 trillion plan, like the current Democratic version in the Senate, would bring health insurance to more than 31 million Americans who now lack it. Government insurance wouldn't be included ... Striking out in one fresh direction that should have wide appeal, Obama would give federal regulators new powers over the insurance industry, a reaction to a rash of double-digit premium hikes that have infuriated policy holders in California and other states."

Notice the elements which prove that this plan is going to follow the Fascist Model already installed in the Banking and Insurance industries, as well as with the automakers.

* No Public Option - this coded phrase means that the government will not actually put private insurers out of business. Ownership of private insurers will remain in private hands, and insurance will still be provided by private companies.

* President Obama will hand government regulators new authority over the insurance companies. This is the other leg of Fascism; heavy government regulation. Insurance premiums, as well as compensation packages, will come under government regulation.

Therefore, this entire industry is slated to be transferred to the Fascist Model, as are all other parts of the economy.

Now, let us return to our featured article:

"Still, any kind of win on health care would be good for Obama right now. For a president, victory often begets victory, defeat spawns defeat ... privately, a senior White House official sought to lower expectations, saying a solid single is better than striking out swinging for the fences."

Now, we get to the Republican side of the Health Care Plan. Remember, without their support, this Plan cannot be called Bi-partisan. Democrats are anxious not to pass a Plan without Republican support, because any failures or shortcomings would be instantly blamed on them.

"If Obama ultimately settles for a scaled-down plan, the final bill could look a lot like what Republicans have been calling for over many years."

We must continue to watch this scenario unfold. The Plan for the entire economy is to overthrow the old Capitalist system and replace it with Fascism. That apparently is the model being sought in the Health Care Industry.
