White Reaper

A thunderstorm hit northeast Montana last night- and it sound like the white reaper did some harvesting in some areas...Real spotty on hail and rain....Some places had an inch deep of hail on the ground when it was over....Penny size to inch hail..Sounds like Scobey area got hit good..

We were hoping for rain- only got teased..At the north place got high winds (60 to 70 mph) and .1 of rain....But it could have been worse as you could look off at the hills about 5 miles away and they were all white.
Temp went from 85 to 58 in just minutes...
Down on the river we got .1 and very little wind- just wicked lightning and thunder...4 miles away at the weather bureau they got .6...

Some areas got as much as 2+" of rain...

Ah dang, I was hoping that wouldn't happen when I watched the radar last night.
These storms are getting pretty nasty.
Got a trace of rain this morning.
Watching the radar now, got a storm cell straight west of us moving east. They are popping up once again.

Hoping the only fireworks we see tonight are man made and not nature made.

Some wicked clouds. We were watching pretty close in case we needed to put vehicles away. It was dead calm in the yard with little twisters in the clouds.

Only got a tenth. :?

Just checked the radar and there is another storm cell hitting the same place that got hit the other night. It's got the purple color in it, that's what it had when it dropped pea size to half dollar size hail. :(
Friends got hit that night. Said it looked like 25% to 50% of the wheat got knocked down.

Better get off I'm hearing thunder.

Lost 17 acres of winter wheat and 6 acres of malt barley today. My garden is a total loss.
Got some other wheat and barley strips that have some damage to them. Won't know how much until the insurance guy comes and takes a look.
The dry stuff in the grass was knocked down, but enough was left standing for us to hay.

Got 1.35" of rain in just over an hour. Not counting the hail.

Our pastures looked like they had snow on them.

Guy north of us had at least an 80% loss. The hail just stripped the seed heads off of his wheat.

Yep- we were out at Fort Peck Lake where all my kids and grandkids are camped- having a steakfry - and we watched those storms coming in...The dark clouds in the west sure cleared the lake of boats....
Didn't hit here til about 1AM--Wicked wicked lightning and thunder that just shook the house...Not much wind- but rain came down good for 15-20 minutes....We got .6 on the river bottom...None at the north place 30 miles north....Luckily again- no hail.....

The forecast for the whole next week or so is a chance of thunderstorms every day...

That is sad, I Luv Herefords. We had a bad hailstorm on the first of June last year, which really whacked our place. Fortunately, it was early enough that the grasses came back somewhat before the summer was over.

With that cellphone on ice, I hope someone didn't think there was a cold voice on the other end of the line.

Hail is so demoralizing. It used to rain cats and dogs but in the 21st century it rains cell phones.

It stands to reason that this would happen from clouds producing hail cells.

The weather service asked that I get pics of the hail and use something to show it's size. Only thing I could really think of was my cell phone.

Thanks for the laugh's I needed them this morning. :D :D :D
