Danielle has what it takes to gain some serious traction here. She is well liked and respected at least in Southern Alberta. She has a pretty good understanding on most issues and is very strong fiscally and on property rights. The PCs are having a policy convention this weekend and a vote on whether to have a vote on Stelmach's leadership. It's a bit like B.C. politics right now. Way better than the same old same old.

They are kinda rare in the East. I like what she is about, but what are the implications of a split vote for the right in the West? Will it have an affect at the federal level?

The eastern left would probably like to see her win because it would divide and weaken the western right.

Like this article from the Toronto Star says!

Alberta's right turns

Like Ontario once upon a time, Alberta still boasts a Progressive Conservative dynasty spanning roughly four decades. Now, however, the Alberta Tories are in a tizzy, redolent with self-doubt as voter support tumbles to record lows.

Today, Alberta Tories will cast a vote in a leadership review to decide the fate of Premier Ed Stelmach, whose unsteady hand many of them blame for their decline.

The party is now running a humiliating second in Calgary behind the Wildrose Alliance, thanks to a dynamic new leader, Danielle Smith, whose far-right creed is lighting up the oil patch.

Wildrose is also catching fire with some of the same Reform party stalwarts aligned with Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

In province-wide polls, Wildrose now stands second, ahead of the provincial Liberals and New Democrats.

Even Stelmach's erstwhile mentor, former premier Ralph Klein, is stirring things up. Klein said recently that his successor needs to win at least 70 per cent support in today's vote.

That puts more heat on Stelmach. With friends like Klein, who needs enemies?

If Stelmach falls short today, any successor would likely take the party even further right to outdo Wildrose. That is something that should concern the rest of the country.

That is the conundrum Burnt, what if Alberta is the forgotten province again. They sure like taking our money but don't give a crap as to what we have to say.
It sounds like the twit Eddie is on the way out ,thank God. What a complete moron. We'll have to see who takes his place and how that impacts the momentum the WR party is having.
