James Dobson
WASHINGTON – Some of the top leaders in Christian pro-family activism – including James Dobson of Focus on the Family – met in Salt Lake City yesterday to plot a strategy if Rudy Giuliani or another supporter of legalized abortion is nominated by the Republican Party as its presidential candidate.

Not only was there a consensus among activists to withhold support for the Republican nominee, there was even discussion about supporting the entry of a new candidate to challenge the frontrunners.

It's no secret that Dobson, founder of one of the largest Christian ministries in the country, has no use for Giuliani.

In June, he said: "I cannot, and will not, vote for Rudy Giuliani in 2008. It is an irrevocable decision. If given a Hobson's – Dobson's? – choice between him and Sens. Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, I will either cast my ballot for an also-ran – or if worse comes to worst – not vote in a presidential election for the first time in my adult life. My conscience and my moral convictions will allow me to do nothing else."

I saw the below bumper sticker the other day!!!

The Republican Party is dead! It just doesn’t realize it or have the decency to lie down and be dead.

I read an article last night that I can't find now--it was written by a conservative commentator and was interesting as besides Bush, the conservatives and Republicans were blaming all the parties woes on Karl Rove and GW's neocon cronies- kind of like they hung Rummy out to dry for all the Iraq problems.... They were following the Newt way of thinking, that the party needs to abandon Bush- get back to its original conservative values--thinking there may still be time to get the party back on track-- if not for 08 than for 2010...

The interesting thing I see-- is that so far the Corporate world has almost abandoned the Republicans too- and are not sticking money in like normal..The Dems are running away with the campaign donations...

WASHINGTON -- It is gallows humor time for Republicans in Congress, where one lawmaker jokes that "there's talk about us going the way of the Whigs," the 19th century political party long extinct.

Fundraising for Republican campaign organizations lags. That is strikingly so in the House, where the party committee spent more than it raised in each of the past two months, reported only $1.6 million in the bank at the end of August and a debt of nearly $4 million.

Democrats reported $22.1 million in the bank and a debt of slightly more than $3 million.

Polls, too, chart the decline of the Republicans.

A recent Gallup poll reported that 59 percent of those surveyed have an unfavorable impression of the Republican Party. By a margin of 47-42 percent, they said Democrats will do a better job of protecting against terrorism and military threats. Asked which party would better maintain prosperity, the majority preferred the Democrats, 54-34.

Something the neocons failed to realize is that the foundation of American business, is small business. A few companies like ATT and 3M hold massive quantities o patents, but the majority of patents are held by individuals with an idea......and while each of them may only hold one or two, they far outnumber the total numbers held by the big companies. So when conservative issues come up, being good for wall street, or for the major oil companies, or for the insurance giants is not necessarily good for conservatives.

When you add "cronyism" regardless of competence (ala Rummy and Gonzales) and sheer incompetence on the part of the administration, you have a mix that is neither good for the country or conservative. At this point in time, it appears Bill Clinton was actually MORE conservative than either of the Bush's. Having to compromise with Bob Dole forced him to curb his more left perspectives. Unfortunately Bush has not had to do that kind of compromise, and the Republicans, fearful of losing or appearing un-united became sycophants for a non-conservative government that never saw a spending program they didn't like.
