Thursday evening, a senior here at our small school along with several friends went to Lake Conroe. They were swimming and the others say that this kid said he didnt think he could make it across to where they were goin, and turned back. Now he's missing. They suspect he's drowned. Friday at school Lil Lilly said they basically did nothing in class but sit and talk about this. He was in her Ag Class. Well liked by everyone. Seems the County search team has called the search off until Monday. Since they've found no signs on land that he made it outta the water.
These kids are all upset. Nothin like this has ever happened here. Prayers are needed for all these kids but especially the one's that were out there swimming with this young man, and his dad, and family. They all feel terrible and don't know how to handle what they are goin thru. His dad lives in Minnesota, or somewhere, not sure as of yet, he was living with an aunt and uncle here. The school and kids are trying to get enuff money donated and rounded up to send the dad a plane ticket to fly to Texas.

Lilly...

I'm so sorry to hear this...deals like this are always tough. Please know, and also tell Lil Lilly that we are keeping her and her schoolmates (because I know that in small schools and even large schools it's not a "class" thing, but a "school" thing) and the young man's family in our thoughts and prayers.

Tonight is prom here...I hope everyone stays safe. In our community we have a drinking culture (don't get me wrong, I'm no teetotaler, but am for responsibility) and the parents often buy for the kids and let them loose unsupervised. I've seen enough kids lost, between prom and graduations, this time of year scares me to death.

Cheers, and prayers to Lil Lilly, the young man's family, and the whole community---

TTB

Thanks Ya'll

One of the main things I think that is so hard for these kids to grasp is the reasons for haulting the search. The time line from the time of drowning until a body surfaces. Awful to think that's how it hasta work, but the kids just don't understand that. Yesterday we sat her down and explained it to her. Of course there's always hope that he's alive. But the authorities aren't painting a bright picture. Since yesterday was Friday, I have no way of knowing (other than what she came home telling us) what the teachers told them, or how it was explained to them. Our local news is sorely lackin in keeping the community informed of developements since we are such a small town and don't have a newspaper or television station here. Bryan/College Station is 42 miles from here and they are the only one's so far with any kind of news story on it. And all it says is that he's missing and how he went missing. Lake Conroe is in Montgomery county, and I've searched the internet for any news from there, and there's nothing. Mr Lilly and her have gone to town, maybe they'll hear some news while they are there.
I just keep thinking, this young man moved here and started school this year at the beginning of the school year. The kids embraced him into their "circle of friends" immediately and gave him the nick name of "Squiggles". Our school is really small and close knit, K-12 in one building, with approximately 150 students. Although he didnt get to go on the FFA trips with us, since he's just an Ag-Mech student and not a member of FFA. He was in the shop and class room while we were at the school helping out this year. Sweet Sweet kiddo.

Dont give up hope yet Lilly, they may find him cold, hungry and wet,IM hoping they do,reminds me of a sad time here in the hill country when it was flooding once, few kids were trying to cross the Guadalupe river and got washed down stream,we never found one boy, still havent found him to this day and its been 4 or 5 years now.
That boys father searched the river banks for months after the search was called off,it would break your heart to watch him, always thought to myself, what a rotten deal ,a father cant even bury his own son...........good luck

Bad news this mornin, they found the boys body. I feel so bad for his parent's and extended family and all the kids....All we can do is be there for them and send up our prayers. The kids are not only raising money to fly the dad here, they've discussed if they get any over the plane ticket amount that they'll donate it towards paying for the funeral.
These kids just amaze me at how one minute they can be such kids, and the next they can be so grown up about some things.

Man, Lilly, that's a tough one. Our deepest sympathy to the family.

A 16-year old boy from here was killed Tuesday on I-94. I don't know the details except the dad was driving and they were in a construction zone over by Dickinson, ND. The father is in critical condition. The dad stopped
in at the newspaper to leave something off right before he left.

Things happen in the blink of an eye...and lives change forever.

Sure sorry to read this Lilly. I've never quite figured out why we've always got to lose a few young ones. Maybe, to remind us to appreciate them while they are here.

Sad, so very sad. Let me know if there is anything i can do besides a prayer. Thats already done.
