Who's the consensus builder?

Who will be willing to reach across party lines? Who's for change? Who's the new guy in DC?

Let the record reflect that Barack Obama made the approach to John McCain tonight.

As the two shared the Senate floor tonight for the first time since they won their party nominations, Obama stood chatting with Democrats on his side of the aisle, and McCain stood on the Republican side of the aisle.

So Obama crossed over into enemy territory.

He walked over to where McCain was chatting with Republican Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida and Independent Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut. And he stretched out his arm and offered his hand to McCain.

McCain shook it, but with a “go away” look that no one could miss. He tried his best not to even look at Obama.

Finally, with a tight smile, McCain managed a greeting: “Good to see you.”

Obama got the message. He shook hands with Martinez and Lieberman — both of whom greeted him more warmly — and quickly beat a retreat back to the Democratic side.

Token gesture by Obama........... Purely political.

Bush has reached across party lines since his first election and where has it gotten him? Want examples?

I especially remember Bush Sr. giving in to the Dems on a "No New Taxes" campaign statement, yet getting beaten over the head with it during the next election for "reaching across the aisle".

I would have been more proud of McCain if he had told Obama to F--k off and walk away.

But I'm a little different than most, I try to stand on principle.

You're wrong. What a surprise, huh? :D He's co-sponsored legislation with Republicans several times. One big bill that Obama supported was Senator Coburn's bill that created a search engine and database to track grants, contracts, earmarks and loans. His "Fuel Energy Reform Act" had several Republican co-sponsors as did his "Dignity For Wounded Warriors Act."

But did it pass??? Guess he was trying to keep up with who was getting more "earmarks" than himself....damn few.

Spin, spin, spin. Now you're trying to move the goal posts. Too late, I've already shown that you're wrong, wrong when you say Obama NEVER reached across the aisle. :D Let it be known that he walked across the aisle to shake hands with McCain, not the other way around. :D

fff..did the bill pass or was it just a token ??? I like the way McCain handled Little O.....sort of like, go back to your little dog house. We'll call you if you're needed. And walking across the aisle to shake someone's hand is hardly the same as "reaching across the aisle in a nonpartisan way to help the country regardless of your party affiliation".

Barack Obama, on the first 'bailout' vote in the House:

"I don't think me calling House Republican members would have been that helpful, I tend not to be that persuasive on that side of the aisle."

Barack Obama - a REAL uniter. CHANGE you can believe in.
