Notice I didn't even say get ahead. With minimum wage where it is and health insurance costs where they are it's not staying even for the working American.
A person making minimum wage should never be expecting to stay even with everyone else. Minimum wage is intended on being a starting wage, not a family supporting wage.
Hard work is never going to be enough to expect to be even with other people. You have to add in some intellect to the equation. Ditch diggers work about as hard as anyone but they are not paid higher than most. You have to use your head and search out a profession that pays at the scale you would like. If you like what you are doing and it pays less then be happy with the job you chose, but no one has the right to expect that wage to catch up with professions that took more planning and an effort to get.
And many times the money is enough but the spending and desires grow, you can not have champagne taste on a beer salary. If you want the champagne then make changes in your life to obtain that salary, otherwise learn to be happy with the Beer.
So are you saying that ditch diggers aren't smart? Are you saying our country could function without any ditch diggers?
I am saying if you chose to be a ditch digger, do not whine about ditch digging wages. Do not expect the wages of the guy that learned to run a backhoe, borrowed the money to buy one and start his own business.
Life is what you make out of it, you can not expect the Government to make everything equal so you get the same of those that planned for what they want and got what they planned for.
If you do not like what something pays, do not go into that field of work. Most all jobs have a pretty transparent pay expectation, and you should research that before you go that direction, personal responsibility again is the key!
And if you are on a sinking ship then, get off and find a new career, personal responsibility!
