Red Robin, Mike, thanks for the articles.
No problem. There are several more articles. We should put the DDT argument to rest once and for all. I actually think I heard that some of the 3rd world countries were reintroducing it as a control measure for mosquitoes. The viruses mosquitoes carry worry me a lot more than DDT.

Cal, i got no prob with the shale or ethanol, but i think if the ethanol plants can pay for themselvs in a couple years, the gov shouldnt be subsidizing them. I also think we should be making ethanol out of grass and sugar cane, things that dont need to be replanted yearly like corn. I dont think corn is the answer.

My kid goes to a country school and the education is way better than in the past. If you think we need to go back to the 3 rs and thats it, your HI!

No, not high, but just a touch of caffiene overload. I would give anything if we had our country schools back. When they were open it wasn't a case of segregation at all, because the ratios were about the same as in town. The parents were mostly all quite involved in the school, and there were incidents, but mostly a good learning environment all the way around. The parents that didn't give a **** didn't make the extra effort to keep their kids away from town.

I really think if the oil shale doesn't get derailed that it's going to play the larger part in our future energy independance, if such a thing ever develops. I agree with you on the alcohol, doubtful if enough corn can be grown to cover it. Corn farmers'll be happy, but calf prices...could be ouch.

As corn prices elevate I wonder how affordable ethanol will be.... Calf prices will take a beating if we have 3-4 dollar corn but is ADM going to want to be spending that ype of money on ethanol production and how are people going to feel about the cost of fuel at that price...

No, there is not enough land in this country to produce enough corn for the alcohol plants to supply all of our gas unfortunately.. WE would probably be better off lookin into coal gasification for a long tern solution if we want to keep buring fossil type fuels.. .. Now, if they can get a way for Biomass to work in alcohol produciton we might be onto something real special...
