On this primary election day in SD, here are a few of the reasons I look for a conservative candidate.

I think things are more productive when government stays out of business as much as possible and lets the individual prosper, or fail. I do not support a business becoming a monopoly, but I do believe in lots of competition amoungst businesses. The government has never produced, and in fact gets in the way, and puts roadblocks in front of individuals producing. The governments job should be to make sure there is fair competition, and nothing else.

I think the security decsions of the US, are better made by the US, and not the UN. Most liberals support the UN, and they think the UN is better at making our military decsions than the US is. I think the UN should stick to humanitarian issues, and keep their nose out of our business. Some of the countries in the UN are SO immoral it is rediculous. Our liberals seem to want to hand over our country to the UN, and that is unacceptable to me.

Liberals want the US to adopt all kinds of government run parts of our economy that they say needs "fixed". Health Care, Big oil, etc. Let the government nationalize any of these things, and watch the price go way up in a hurry on that product. How about limiting the damages that malpractice suits can award? But that would not help the ambulance chasers who get most of the dollars on contingency cases, and we couldn't do that. Or how about letting oil companies search for more oil supplies or build new refineries? NOPE, there might be a yellow bellied sap sucker or some hardly endagered species living where the oil rig would need to drill. Never mind the fact the modern drilling is very efficient, or that we could be indepenent from other oil producing nations. Let's support Saudi Arabia's economy, and hold back ours. Government has never completely fixed a problem in my lifetime yet.

I think that SS. and Medicare are probably good programs for the elderly that have had hard times, and not beeen able to save, but why is every attempt to get a better return on their money thwarted by the Dems? The stock market has proved to have much better returns over time than the measly returns on SS, but the libs are scared to lose one of their programs to the free market, and we wouldn't want our consitituants seeing that the free market works.

How about Taxes? Tell me how any taxpayer of any size has the incentive to produce at confiscatory tax rates? I understand that when R. Reagan took office, the highest tax rates were over 50%. We had a terrible business economy, and interest rates were through the roof. Who would want to produce when you gave over half of what you made to uncle sam? You cannot tax your way to prosperity.

This brings me to welfare reform that talked about the other day. A wiser man than me said that if you give a man a fish, you feed him for one day. Teach a man to fish, and he has fish for a lifetime. I think this fits in well with welfare reform. If we limit the days on welfare to able bodied persons, they see that they need to get going and get a job. They have to prove that they are not unable to work, and it adds to our economy in the end, and makes the person feel better about themselves. And I am for helping the truly needy, and I think churches do a big service in this dept.

I think that government need to be involved in our lives, when our society is not responsible enough to keep our morals. If we ended abortion, think of all the taxpaying citizens that could be helping the liberals causes. If our society is not moral enough to see that abortion is wrong, who else but government could do it? But as Soapweed says, let a horrible criminal face the death penalty, and liberals rally around him like he is Christ himself. If liberals cannot see the difference between a clearly innocent person (fetus) and a clearly guilty one (criminal), then I could not explain this any better to them. They like to say conservatives contradict themselves on this, but I think it is vice versa. A crime is a crime.

I think there are a lot of well minded liberals, but most of them are wrong headed in the big picture.

To end my topic, GOOD LUCK today Liberty Belle!
