Why is today so historic?

So a Democrat is president. That's happened before.

The 44th? Hopefully there will be a 45th.

Is he the youngest?

The country is not really at war. Iraq is fairly quiet. Nothing like WW2.

The depression isn't as bad as the 30"s.

Can somebody tell me why this event is so historic that it warrants $150 million plus to swear in the president?

It is historic because a president was elected that no one knows anything about except a book(s) that was written by none other than himself. :???:

Even his relatives in Kenya have been ordered to stay quiet and not hold interviews about him without permission.

Do I win the prize?

Why don't you go and try to find an African-American and ask them?

Preferably someone that was old enough to have been involved in the Civil Rights movement.

Or better yet, look up one of the Tuskegee Airmen and ask him.

I could give you an asnwer, but they would probably be able to provide a much better explanation than I could.

if the big deal is race related, then we really have not moved very far from the 60's at all....

all the work the activist did to have EQUAL rights was reall about the blacks having power over the whites, so it would seem.

I guess I wouldn't know if it is a good or bad taste, but you certainly seem to have an opinion!

I had no idea you were so open-minded.

Hey BMR can you not accept the fact that this is all about this Nations new president,be he be black, white, blue or green ? This is history no matter what race. Today is a proud day for America no matter what race.

I did not vote for our President but I will now support him till he gives me a reason not to. I pray every American in this country gives him the same respect. Without that respect we are doomed to failure.

You were the twerp running around posting about your foreskin infatuations.

I don't remember saying anything about their bad taste.

But, once again, I congratulate you on your open-mindedness and want you to know that I respect people whether they are straight, gay, lesbian, or people like yourself who tried something once and didn't like it.

but this election wasn't won on the colour of Obama's skin, people didn't vote for him soley because he is black, they voted for him because of his policies and all the good he's going to do for the US... right? so why does BMR need to ask a black person? why can't a non-black person answer?

Well the history of the day might just include the fact that there was one of the largest stock market sell offs on Inaugeration day in history. Is that Hope or Fear of what is coming??? :?

Sorry Oldtimer but this guy was to bring hope and all was to be right with the world the day he took office. I don't see one of the largest drops on Inaugration day in history to be a vote of confidence.

BTW Oldtimer do you want a guy that cheats on his income tax to run the US Treasury?

He not only didn't pay his tax for 4 years but he claimed a refund from the company that told him he had to pay them himself. AND he claimed his childs summer camp fees as a deduction. Who else would get away with that. Oh Yea he didn't he paid part of the missing taxes upon audit and the rest upon vetting. That is a guy I'd want running the US purse strings and IRS.

With the numerous bigger than NYC telephone books of IRS laws- it would surprise me that anyone could pass the IRS audit test...Even the folks at H & R Block or any of the other tax preparers...I know because there is a whole bunch of folks locally that had their taxes prepared by several differing Preparers-- got audited- and are now being told they owe money because of deductions taken that the Government says you can't take....Luckily the companies are going to battle for us--but that doesn't mean we'll win...

Its the ones that are hiding money in Phil Gramms Foreign Bank or he and/or his Foreign Bank is helping smuggle out money and hide to avoid US taxes- or those that declare out of country corporations to avoid paying their share that bother me a lot more...
You know them better as GW's Fatcat Buddies....

The company he worked for made sure their employees knew that they had not paid the taxes and that it was up to the employee to pay them. He signed a paper claiming the refund for the tax he didn't pay. When he was audited he only paid 2 of the four years he owed. It wasn't until he was vetting that he paid the other two years so don't give me this crap about him not knowing. Just how many people do you know gets away with claiming their kids summer camp as a deduction? This guy tried to get away with not paying his taxes and now he is going to get the go ahead to run the agency he tried to cheat.

Is that the reason REPUBLICAN Congressman Bilbray stood up in a Congressional Hearing on the Lending fiasco and said GW Bush should be indicted under the RICO statute as a coconspirator for refusal to enforce/outright telling regulators to break the law to check if borrowers were US citizens/legal immigrants in order to give out more loans- which has almost bankrupt California and Colorado with their housing prices drop.... :???:

I don't think it was all Dems....Remember what Phil Gramm and his Enron/Banking buddies did for the country too...

Isn't it funny how some have selective memories about this problem? The New York Times had an article in 1999 about how CLINTON encouraged Fanny and Freddy to enter into this subprime mess. But everyone seems to want to blame Bush even the New York Times. I guess they don't even read their own bias rag.
