Why we are all Catholics now
By Glenn Beck

I am a proud member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but today, I call myself a Catholic. Why? Because the state is telling the Catholic Church to violate its principles and teachings. So if you are a person of faith, you must call yourself a Catholic.

Today, the Catholic Church is defending a historic American freedom. We tend to forget that many of America's earliest European settlers were religious refugees. Europe was not a kind place to the faithful if the state didn't approve: Jews in Spain, Puritans in England, Protestants in France and so on. You were cast out, or worse.

Our Founding Fathers remembered this. They knew if you can't serve God as you choose, you are not free. And so they enshrined that right in the First Amendment of the Constitution: The state "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…"

This is why Americans are offended by the ruling from the White House that would force church-run institutions to pay for birth control and morning-after pills, which are tantamount to abortion. The so-called compromise is no compromise – under government-approved health insurance plans that the church pays for, abortifacients would be covered. Sin by proxy – that's the compromise.

This isn't a fight over abortion or birth control. This is about whether the state can force someone to pay to have their religious beliefs violated.

Many people – including those who use contraception and abortion – respect those whose faith teaches them that God wants them to do or not do certain things. They recognize such faith in themselves. Some people don't drink alcohol. Some don't eat pork. Some people wear a hijab. Some work in soup kitchens. Some tithe 10 percent of their income. All because God tells them to.

That is what a conscience is – a belief in a higher power, greater than the state, greater than any man. That makes religious people a danger to the state – and a powerful force for change. Religious people stood against slavery. They stood against injustice. And today, they stand against a culture of death and a culture of hatred. On July 28, in Dallas, I will convene a meeting of the faithful – all faithful – to celebrate life and restore love.

Because when the state comes against the Catholics, or the Jews, or the Muslims, or the Pentecostals, or the Mormons or those of any other faith – exotic or familiar – we must all stand up as one: We are all Catholics now.

This is a broad struggle. I have met many Catholic friends, including high-ranking church leaders last weekend at the Vatican. I told them this struggle is similar to the fight against anti-Semitism. They understand, and they agree. To them, this fight is everything. And there will be no compromise.

Perhaps this is a hard line. But when it comes to the separation of church and state, we need absolutes. The state needs to be free from the church, and the church from the state. The state has no right to say how much religion any American can practice. It's our right, and it is the first one our Founding Fathers protected.

Probably the reason I'm not a Roman Catholic- a religion that votes in "mortal representatives" to God and in their politics has not only backed but promoted slavery-- and Hitler....

A mortal living dignity who in 1074 (Pope Gregory VII) decided that anyone to be ordained in the church must first pledge celibacy and 'priests [must] first escape from the clutches of their wives.'- and tore apart a church and ministry built upon family and marriage fundamentals...
I always wondered if Gregory was a Repub totapper in the likeness of Larry Craig :???:
And we saw the Catholic Priest problems that followed that were revealed in the 20th-21st Century....

And who back in the 1930's had a (Pope) Pius XI in his 1930 encyclical, :Casi Connubii" that broke with the rest of the Catholic Church/ and most Church doctrine and proclaimed that all contraception is illegal- and a sin......

Sixty-five percent of registered voters said that they supported the Obama administration's birth control mandate, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll.
________

According to a survey, conducted between Feb. 8-13, 61 percent of Americans support federally-mandated contraception coverage for religiously-affiliated employers; 31 percent oppose such coverage.

The number is similar among self-professed Catholics surveyed: 61 percent said they support the requirement, while 32 percent oppose it.

-------------------

Democrats also point out that 99 percent of women, and up to 98 percent of Catholic women, have used birth control at some point in their lives, according to two separate polls by the Guttmacher Institute.

Maybe with the world starvation and over population problems its time for a new "mortal representative of God" to give a new decree....

I have no problem with their beliefs- the same as I have no problem with the Fundamentalist Mormons beliefs of multiple wives- as long as the rest of the world doesn't have to take on or care of their beliefs- that were neither proclaimed by God or Jesus- but rather by an elected representative 1000 years later....

One of your hero Presidents promoted Hitler

Hitler was all the rage, before he started killing people in the name of Progressivism, sort of like obama......

Most religions have progressed, except the one you Liberals like to stick up for......Islam, but that might be because you like their Authoritarian like style.......

How much do the Churches give annually to the less fortunate, OT?

People still have the choice to join or end their relationship with any religion.

what they are now fighting with obama, is to maintain that right.

Once again, Old Tool goes off on a tangent, and in doing so, publicizes his hatred for Roman Catholics.

The question is not whether the Church's stand on contraception was man made or handed down from God.....The question is does the Government have the ability to over ride what has been Church doctrine for over 1,000 years. Do you believe in the separation of Church and State, Old Tool? By your post, I'd say you want the Government to be able to dictate Church Doctrine.

As far as you "having no problem with their beliefs or Fundamentalist Morman believing in multiple wives".....yeah, right. At least these beliefs were presented by an ELECTED representative, not someone who was APPOINTED.

You being a closet Catholic hater only solidifies my not complimentary view of you. I'd also bet you are an Anti-Semite, just like good ol' KooKooKatchoo. So much for you supposedly being unbiased and impartial.

"National Socialism and Christianity are irreconcilable." For the party to rule, he said the Churches' influence in the leadership of the people "must absolutely and finally be broken."

I have only had about 3 Presidents I really respect during Hitlers lifetime-- Teddy Roosevelt ( and I'm sure Hitler was a child during his time), FDR who tried to get the then Repub party out of the isolationism and support Europe against Hitler- and Eisenhower... And both FDR's and Ikes goal was to kill him...
I also have to give a thumbs up to Truman because of no other reason than he had the balls to use the atom bomb that FDR authorized being built- which may have saved millions of US/allied servicemens lives including my Dad and Uncles....

Hitler and his ideas (Fascism) were all the rage, before he started killing people in the name of Progressivism, sort of like obama......

The German press adored FDR. In 1934, the Vlkischer Beobachter, the Nazi Party's official newspaper, described Roosevelt as a man of "irreproachable, extremely responsible character and immovable will" and a "warm-hearted leader of the people with a profound understanding of social needs." Hitler sent FDR a letter celebrating his "heroic efforts" and "successful battle against economic distress." Hitler informed the U.S. ambassador, William Dodd, that New Dealism was also "the quintessence of the German state philosophy."

The Roosevelt administration, she added, "envisages a federation of industry, labor and government after the fashion of the corporative State as it exists in Italy."

Anne O'Hare McCormick

But in the 1930s, when everyone agreed that capitalism had failed, it wasn't hard to find common themes and mutual admiration in Washington, Berlin, and Rome, not to mention Moscow.

But throughout the '30s, intellectuals and journalists noted "areas of convergence among the New Deal, Fascism, and National Socialism." All three were seen as transcending "classic Anglo-French liberalism"

Roosevelt himself called Mussolini "admirable" and professed that he was "deeply impressed by what he has accomplished." The admiration was mutual. In a laudatory review of Roosevelt's 1933 book Looking Forward, Mussolini wrote, "Reminiscent of Fascism is the principle that the state no longer leaves the economy to its own devices.…Without question, the mood accompanying this sea change resembles that of Fascism." The chief Nazi newspaper, Volkischer Beobachter, repeatedly praised "Roosevelt's adoption of National Socialist strains of thought in his economic and social policies" and "the development toward an authoritarian state" based on the "demand that collective good be put before individual self-interest."

To that end, all the new regimes of the '30s undertook unprecedented propaganda efforts. "Propaganda," Schivelbusch writes "is the means by which charismatic leadership, circumventing intermediary social and political institutions like parliaments, parties, and interest groups, gains direct hold upon the masses."

Journalist John T. Flynn, a former socialist, in his 1944 book As We Go Marching, surveyed the interwar policies of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, and pointed to what he called uncomfortably similar American policies. Flynn saw links between 'generic' fascism and a large number of policies of the United States. He said that "the New Dealers ... began to flirt with the alluring pastime of reconstructing the capitalist system ... and in the process of this new career they began to fashion doctrines that turned out to be the principles of fascism." See a further discussion of these claims linking the New Deal to statism, corporatism, and fascism at Fascism and ideology.

Some Austrian School economists, such as David Gordon and Thomas DiLorenzo, have also compared aspects of the New Deal to Mussolini's corporatism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Deal_and_corporatism

In 1993 author Sheldon Richman wrote:

Roosevelt's National Recovery Act (NRA) attempted to cartelize the American economy just as Mussolini had cartelized Italy's. Under the NRA Roosevelt established industry-wide boards with the power to set and enforce prices, wages, and other terms of employment, production, and distribution for all companies in an industry. Through the Agricultural Adjustment Act the government exercised similar control over farmers. Interestingly, Mussolini viewed Roosevelt's New Deal as "boldly... interventionist in the field of economics."

Roosevelt - Anti-Semitic Racist

I told Winston, listen Winston, those places are nothing but a headache to you – you know that. They cost the British Treasury five million pounds – nearly 25 million dollars - every year. They are nothing but a headache. If you think I want your headaches, you are mistaken. I don't. Furthermore those places are inhabited by some 8 million dark-skinned gentlemen and I don't want them coming to the United States and adding to the problem we already have with our 13 million black men. I tell you, Winston, it's just a headache and you can keep it. - Ward pp. 526-527

Further proof that the "nut" don't fall far from the tree. Eh, Old Tool?

Oldtimer, I dont know where you picked up that lie about contraception and the Catholic Church The truth is that all Christians were against contraception until 1932 when FDR promoted it and the Angelican church approved of it and soon all protestant churches followed.
The Catholic church stood her ground and never waivered from the age old opposition to contraception

A mortal living dignity who in 1074 (Pope Gregory VII) decided that anyone to be ordained in the church must first pledge celibacy and 'priests [must] first escape from the clutches of their wives.'- and tore apart a church and ministry built upon family and marriage fundamentals... Absolutely. The better to give himself 100% to the service of God?? All know this before going into the priesthood. By the way OT this can be reversed as easily as it was begun....it's a practice...not a doctrine. I always wondered if Gregory was a Repub totapper in the likeness of Larry Craig :???: SCREW YOU. You are the pervert. And we saw the Catholic Priest problems that followed that were revealed in the 20th-21st Century.... Actually a careful study will show you that there are more cases of child abuse, pedophilia and such among protestants pastors and church officials than amont Catholic Priests.

And who back in the 1930's had a (Pope) Pius XI in his 1930 encyclical, :Casi Connubii" that broke with the rest of the Catholic Church/ and most Church doctrine and proclaimed that all contraception is illegal- and a sin......In 1873 Anthony Comstock pushed a bill through Congress which defined contraceptive information as obscene. What was the social, economic and political climate in the United States that fostered the passage of the Comstock Law and continued adherence to it at the turn of the century? Why was it not until 1965 before the U.S. Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional the 1879 birth control law of Connecticut?

According to a survey, conducted between Feb. 8-13, 61 percent of Americans support federally-mandated contraception coverage for religiously-affiliated employers; 31 percent oppose such coverage. Then let those 61% make sure they are not employed by any Catholic institution.

The number is similar among self-professed Catholics surveyed: 61 percent said they support the requirement, while 32 percent oppose it.How many of these were within the normal child bearing age? -------------------

Democrats also point out that 99 percent of women, and up to 98 percent of Catholic women, have used birth control at some point in their lives, according to two separate polls by the Guttmacher Institute.
Oh really?? Are 98% of women of all religions sexually active and able to conceive???Maybe with the world starvation and over population problems its time for a new "mortal representative of God" to give a new decree....

:roll:Where does sacred scripture promote promiscuity and birth control? Glad to see you do recognize an "elected representative". Jesus never said the Church was a democracy.

Now there are currently over 30,000 protestant denominations all supposedly lead by the Holy Spirit and preaching the one true gospel. Fiond one that agrees with you and join it and if you can't then do like everyone else. Start your own Church.
