Saturday/Sunday- I moved some cows to the Community Pasture- where I have grazing rights with a neighbor because of some deeded land I own in the middle of the State/Blm land...Because of the thunderstorms that moved in for the next couple days- and all the lightning I wasn't sure everything was paired right so went up to check today...

One of the Anderson Charolais bulls my neighbor owns- probably the reason all my late calvers had white calves

But in this pasture its a Dukes mixture of bull breeds- a Nelson Brothers raised Simmi X bull....

Waterhole in the middle of the pasture...Water looking good- as sometimes this one is dry by this time of year...Still haven't found any of my cows....

Did find this one I need to tell Cal isn't coming in this fall...Looks like a young cow- and was on top of the hill-so with all the lightning we've had- I'd guess thats what got it- but I couldn't even check the hooves as 2 were missing...

One of the spring fed water holes on the deeded land down on Cherry Creek...You can travel about 10 miles north- without finding anything but a couple of fences- and more cows and antelope...Our north place is about the next set of buildings....

Looking down Cherry Creek- which is another 5 miles to any buildings...

I finally started finding some of my black cows....Anything black in the pasture is mine or strays- as my poor old cows have to lower themselves for a couple of months to cohabit with reds and whites

As far as I could tell everything got mothered OK- and they seem quite content...

The joys of community pastures, having your cows bred to a whole variety of bulls. Having full waterholes this time of year sure helps keep the cattle scattered to better utilize the grass in those big pastures.

You know we've had a couple cows thru the years struck by lightenin, and when that happens, nothin will touch them. Not a buzzard, not a coyote, not even the fire ants. So they just kinda dry up......have any of you noticed that about lightenin killed cows?

Otherwise, pictures look great. Love the wide open spaces you got there. Not a tree in site. Well....maybe a couple. lol

Sometimes you can check the bottom of the hooves on lightning killed cows and find the burn where the juice came out- but the bottom shell of two of this ones hooves were gone...Not sure if the coyotes chewed them off or they got blew off which I've saw happen too....

Sure is some serious "Big Sky Country"! :D Association pastures are fun! Most of the guys out here go into seperate pastures at turn out to breed. But they get back together and late cows are fair game. One ol' boy turned out a jersey/char/?/?/? cross bull he raised of bunch of years back. All the rest of the asso. members threw a fit but he just shrugged them off and went home. The other guys promptly threw a loop and changed the "bulls" mind. A distant cousin of mine wrote a great bit of cowboy poetry about the story! :D Thanks for the great pictures! :D

Yep- a few years back one of the fellas in a neighboring pasture was running some corriente bulls that wouldn't stay home- and had everyone a little excited when they ended up with a bunch of corriente calves in the spring....Thats the reason I try to get everything pretty well bred up before I move into that one...
