Grandma and the girls got home this afternoon- and she is doing quite well...They said as they drove north from Billings they watched the temp continue to drop....I don't think it got above 0 today here- and the wind kept the chill factor nippy...

Now starting tomorrow- they are predicting another storm moving in- and more snow...We don't need any more snow!!! Or winds and drifts !!

Issued by The National Weather Service
Glasgow, MT
3:33 pm MST, Sat., Dec. 18, 2010

... WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GLASGOW HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY EVENING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING.

* MAIN IMPACT: SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE REGION ON MONDAY MORNING FROM THE SOUTHWEST. SNOW WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES DURING THE DAY WITH POSSIBLE ACCUMULATIONS BETWEEN 4 TO 8 INCHES.

* TIMING: THE SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN LATE SUNDAY NIGHT AND INTENSIFY EARLY MONDAY MORNING... THEN GRADUALLY TAPERING OFF MONDAY EVENING FROM WEST TO EAST.

* OTHER IMPACTS: STRONG WINDS FROM THE SOUTHEAST AT 20 TO 25 MPH WILL SHIFT TO THE EAST BY MONDAY AFTERNOON AND THEN TO THE NORTHWEST BY MONDAY NIGHT. THE WINDS COULD CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH COULD REDUCE VISIBILITIES BELOW A HALF MILE AT TIMES... AND CAUSE DRIVING CONDITIONS TO BECOME HAZARDOUS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

NOW WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT TIME TO STOCK UP ON FOOD... MEDICAL... AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES AS ROADS CAN SOMETIMES TAKE DAYS TO CLEAR.

I just looked at the thermometer-- Temp down here in the valley is -15 with about 10 mph wind---- which gives a windchill of about -35.....

I think my cows would love a Russian climate about now

Suppose to head to Mt tomorrow with a 36' stock trailer going to wait a few days otherwise next sunday. Things get pretty jammed up here towards the end of the week.Figured that big of a trailer behind a 3/4 ton pickup may become a sail.

Snowing HEAVY here-- couple inchs of new snow in the last hour...Wind is starting to pick up...
Just waiting for the sun to come up- so I can see if I can get in to set some bales out behind windbreaks-- because if it really blows it may take a day or two to dig out to get to the cows..

yeah, it is most certainly heading your way....watched the "forecast" at 6 and we are only getting a taste of what eastern montana has in store! wind is absolutely HOWLING this morning (so much for walking to work.... ) and ground blizzards and drifting have travel "tricky" to say the least!! stay warm out there and take care!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS- HO, HO,HO-- Are we having fun yet? :santa:

That was the question I asked as I was feeding and calling the neighbors to see how they were doing.... Most their replies were unprintable  :p

They didn't seem to enjoy my early morning cheer....
We were even arguing over whether we had 8 inchs or 10 inches of new snow on the 7-8 inchs of crusted stuff we already had...

Luckily the wind is not blowing too bad-- because if it does this stuff will go everywhere... 2-3 foot drifts just where some has blown off the roofs....Schools and some of the rural mail routes are already all cancelled today.. Most of northeastern Montana is under an emergency/essential travel only warning....

Snow finally quit here about an hour ago- skies cleared- sun came out and the temp is dropping....Temp is 5-Windchill is about 10 Below...
Weather bureau says we got 11-12" of new snow-- and I think that foot of snow is about right...

Hard getting around tho as you can't see your tracks in all the old hard snow we had...

Luckily the wind never got bad (Yet )... Temp is supposed to drop down to 10 Below tonight... Hopefully the loader tractor will start and we can dig out, again....

Up at 4:00 AM to start the generator and plug in the tractor and my truck.
-30 C here this morning, still only 8-10 inches of snow at the home place and 6 inches at the Morrison Meadow 5 miles away and 600 feet lower.

Lester Dorsey once said that he had lived here for fifty years and never did see a normal winter.
