Obama Says Wild Bill (Hussein?) Hickok Was His Cousin
» by Bill Dupray in: Barack Obama, Culture, History
In his never ending quest to appear to love America and all things American, Obama is enlisting the help of some legendary figures from Americana. From the Washington Post.
Speaking at a packed town hall meeting [in Springfield, Missouri], Barack Obama said he was ready to take on John McCain thanks in part to his ancestry. It seems, he said, that he is a distant cousin of legendary gunman Wild Bill Hickok.
“I’m serious,” he said to incredulous but good-natured laughter. “That’s part of the family legend. I don’t know if it’s true. But I’m ready to duel John McCain on taxes.”
The Hickok legend started in Springfield, where the gunfighter met a former Confederate soldier named Davis Tutt in 1865. In debt to Tutt and perhaps sore over a mutual girlfriend, James Butler Hickok squared off with Tutt in the town square, gunning him down in a “quick draw.”
Yeah, yeah and I had that uncle who liberated Auschwitz too.
Barack Obama’s campaign scrambled Tuesday to set the record straight after the Democratic presidential candidate said on Memorial Day that his uncle helped liberate the Auschwitz death camp at the end of World War II.
There were two obvious problems with the tale: Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet Army, and Obama’s American mother was an only child.
And my cousin, Neil Hussein Armstrong, went to the moon. Then there was my uncle George Hussein Washington, who was involved in that whole Revolutionary War thing. Daniel Hussein Boone was a grandfather on my cousin’s side who was a security guard for a fort in San Antonio.
Funny, I guess all the stars and legends are on his mom’s side. He never talks about all the heroes and America-lovers on the Muslim side of the family.
