Here are some pics of a couple of the wildfires in my area. I did not take these pictures. I swiped them from the BC wildfire site  :D

Llgitiyuz Mountain fire, August 16th pictures.
Size: 170.0 hectares (estimated)
Status: Active
• 0% contained
Fire guards and contingency lines are being worked on however confidence is low that these guards will contain the fire's growth. We are expecting that aggressive fire behaviour will cause fire to spot across current containment lines.
The fire showed very aggressive behaviour today

Binta Lake fire. August 13th pictures.

This is now an interface fire.
Size: 4,500.0 hectares (estimated)

Status: Active
• 20% contained
This fire continues to grow and demonstrate extreme fire activity.
Fire guards and contingency lines are being worked on however confidence is low that these guards will contain the fire's growth. We are expecting that aggressive fire behaviour will cause fire to spot across current containment lines.
Movement has been primarily to the east.
Surrounding areas are smoky today due to warm, calm conditions trapping smoke in the valley. A large column of smoke may be visible from Burns Lake and surrounding areas.

Evacuation Order is in effect.

The Bulkley-Nechako Regional District issued an evacuation order for the area around Binta Lake and an evacuation alert for the surrounding area.

More information
Structural protection specialists have examined all of the structures within the area and structure protection has been triaged.
Smoke may be heavy through Burns Lake, and through the Lakes District and Bulkley Valley.

"20% contained", that means 80% is still getting away from them. Big winds forecast tommorow, things could get interesting.

Llgitiyuz and Binta fires are now together as of today. Firefighters have been pulled off the fires for 2 days in a row now. Its totally out of control. There is nothing they can do at this point. They now have to pull the hoses out , pull out the equipment and build new roads and get new staging areas which they were doing today.
The one firefighter said today that the fire circled them and was very exciting trying to get out. Had a public meeting tonight about the fires. It was quite interesting. I videoed quite a bit of it. They've now closed the roads to the west and east of here, only way out now is by the ferry which they now have running 24 hours as of today. More people were handed evacuation alerts today.
Got the weather report from the meeting tonight. Yes its gonna be windy tomorrow, but at least the winds will be blowing in my favor . Just hope it doesn't get the fires west of me going hard. 2 new fires discovered here today as well. They were hitting them pretty hard today.

You're kinda hemmed in JB.

Makes you feel real secure knowing the ineptness of todays fire bosses don't it?

Our oldest son lives south of Quesnel, he said a lot of the young guys that went on the Pelican fire have quit and come home because the brass won't let them work. Our neighbor's cat has been sitting on his lowbed beside the highway at Alexis Creek because the boss won't let him work. If you have a ticket to fall timber but not "danger trees" you can't fall a snag.

What happened to the days when the District Manager used to drag drunks out of the bars and put them to work on fires? At least back then they actually tried to put them out.

Ya gotta remember those life long fire boys and gals get paid to fight fires, not put them out. I'll never forget in 1994 when our mountain burned. A BLM lowboy pulled up with a CAT and as they are unloading it to start building a fireline, the fireboss is chirping in the cat skinners ear to build the line on the private ground. He must of said it to the guy half a dozen times, make sure you stay on that private land. Finally the old skinner said the blankety blank fire is burning public land too and I'll build it where it needs to be built! Even in an emergency, the politics was apparent! He built a beautiful line a half a mile from our private land on BLM ground and stopped that particular fire right in it's tracks! Good luck and stay safe up there! Cattle and fences can be replaced, ya'll can't!

I liked that story, 'H. That is exactly what my catskinner dad would
have done! There aren't many ole' boys like that around anymore,
and we are the poorer for it.

Stay safe, everyone. Like 'H says, some things can be replaced,
a life can't.

We'll be praying for everyone close to the fires.

Good rain here most of the night, they should be able to mop up the 2 fires here. Talked to some friends near the Meldrum Creek fire, rained a bit there but not enough to make much difference.

Don't know if Jigger Boss has been evacuated. The Binta Lake fire was pretty much running away from the crews this last week - front is supposed to be 18 kms wide.

We've had the BC smoke here for several days; friday was extremely thick with the woodsmoke smell quite strong! Your side of the Rockies must be terrible......Too bad we can't move some of our moisture fronts across the mountains. Hang tough everyone!

Smokey haze is back down here now too...Cold front moving in from Canada apparently bringing it down...Only supposed to be in the 90's today- was 100 yesterday...But this front is supposed to fire a bunch of thunderstorms today and tonight- with not much moisture in them...

I'm still at home. The back end of my 80 acre parcel is pretty much the dividing line for the evac alerts for the Binta lake fire. They've extended the evac alerts further south and north west of me this week because of the Poplar lake fire . I'm still in the clear. Cooler weather has helped, but only got a few spits and a drop of rain yesterday. Not enough to settle the dust. Binta is at least 40,000 hectares now. The Poplar lake is around 5,000 hectares and its burning close to the west end of Francois Lake. I'm not sure if anyone has lost their homes or not. Winds picked up again this afternoon. I won't know the impact of todays winds on the fires until later tonight or tomorrow morning. Binta Lake fire is burning away from me, so that one doesn't concern me at this point. Poplar Lake fire could possibly be a concern, but it still has a lot of ground to cover before it gets near me.
