Will this come back to haunt Clinton?

On Tues. Bill Clinton was shown stating," the Republicans want us to think there is a terrorist on every corner..." The people in back of him snickered, though somewhat uneasily I thought. I couldn't help wondering how this opens us to further attacks in the USA if the Dems take Clinton's attitude.

Am wondering what you folks thought if you saw that also on the news.

there'd be a lot more american troops alive today if the usa secured its borders and ensured the security within those borders. it'd be a lot cheaper, too. travelling through europe back in the days of baader meinhof and the red brigades one of the most militarized and armed countries was switzerland, a neutral nation. they didn't have to invade anybody in order to maintain national security; they took care of business at home. they were also a country that consumed more than they produced but had national commercial interests that operated throughout the world. invading an inconsequential, weak country like iraq only endangered american lives, produced instability and took the focus off of real threats like n. korea and iran. it will take a long time to repair the damage the bush admin has done to the power and influence of the usa. every nation throughout history that has tried to extend its influence beyond its power has paid the price.

Heck, we paid a price on Sept. 11, 2001 with an UNPROVOKED
attack.

Remember that?

5 years ago...and we haven't been attacked again. Thanks to the
leadership of Geoge W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld.

And just remember, this is what the terrorists wanted.
Well, they got it and I hope the day doesn't come that America
sees the mistake they made in this election.

So in your view the democrats are not interested in preventing terrorism? Funny thing, Pres. Bush said just the opposite.

911 happened under a republican administration.

You would have to have just fallen off the turnip truck to believe that 911 is on Bush's shoulders and completely ignore the Clinton inaction the previous 8 years.

Wake up..........................smell the coffee

Somehow people seem to think terrorists must come from ' over there'....DUH....they can be home grown folks also is why we need to focus more on our own borders and business here at home.

no matter what, when the attack comes, it will be blamed on the reps.....It will be GW's falt. The dems were praying for an attack while the reps were in charge, but it didnt happen, and now that the dems are there, they will blame it on the past.

Name one democrat that was praying for an attack. These attacks came from loonies, not republicans or democrats. There was a huge messup in the republican controlled FBI that helped allow the 911 attacks--one based on "that is too bad to happen". We had a huge failure of that part of our government. That still isn't to say the republicans wished it no more than the democrats wished it.

But the FBI, CIA, FSA, and military intelligence were pretty well neutered prior to that by Clinton and Janet Reno...........

They did have a lot of work to do. There are many areas we should have been more prepared before war and many mistakes by both administrations. Lets hope they learned. The institutions you mention above should be above the political fray. When they aren't, we all suffer.

have to wonder how many americans would have been killed by terrorists in the states as compared to the military casualties in iraq and how all the resources expended in iraq could have made the united states more secure if they had been directed towards greater security within american borders. i don't think the iraq invasion has been at all effective when you consider total costs in lives and dollars compared to how things could have been done differently. of course some people think it's a great adventure to go and kick the crap out of a smaller country just because their daddy couldn't get it done.

Oh for crying out loud.

If you recall, many Democrats voted to send troops to Iraq.
This isn't just on the shoulders of G.W. Bush.
And you've been safe for 5 years. Hard to tell what is going to
happen now.

after being fed doctored intelligence. how many republicans are saying they would have voted against if they had known the truth. iraq is a major screwup that is going to cost the usa for decades to come in terms of money, human resources and international influence. there is no glory in the death of a young person to satisfy the likes of rumsfeld, cheney and bush. bush and cheney chose not to go into combat when they had the opportunity but i'll bet there are lots of american families wishing they could send them now.

No, they gave Bush the power to do so. They didn't make him do it. Nor did they choose to make all the mistakes he made.
