Will we see portests in NYC?

No doubt, it was a racial killing...

Unfortunately, in situations like the Garner case, our gut tends to overwhelm our assessment of the facts. We are sickened, as we should be, by the idea that a man died over sale of loose cigarettes – which is an indictment of the law, rather than of the police. We are sickened by the fact that a man died while warning officers he could not breathe – but we must assess whether that death was caused by the officers, or intervening medical conditions.

When people’s lives are at stake, it is worthwhile to actually examine those facts, rather than pre-conceived narratives constructed for political gain. And it is worthwhile noting that even if the police did use excessive force against Garner – which, of course, is quite possible – that still does not establish that they did so for racial reasons.

I saw the video and like many cases that excessive force was used this guy didn't do much wrong.. just give the guy a citation for loitering and selling loose cigarettes and let the court deal with him...

as I have said at least a dozen times.. police NEED training in deescalating a situation...

‘Bad laws made bad cops'

New York City boasts the highest cost for cigarettes in the nation, with a pack ranging anywhere from $12 and up. The city lays its own taxes on top of the state’s, in an effort both to raise revenue and discourage use of tobacco.

The result is a thriving market in sales of loosies and black-market cigarettes.

I read a large portion of the law

and it only calls for a fine...

I've read he was out on bail

even on bail you have rights...

what was his crime. loitering?

to revoke bail often takes a violation in other words the police NEED a reason to arrest a person...

and so far I have not seen a reason to arrest the guy... (being a habitual small time criminal is not justification to just arrest him.. )

I am no fan of De Blasio the mayor of NYC,.. socialist progressive far left liberal...

but even a broken clock is right twice a day...

Mr. de Blasio said the grand jury’s decision had focused the public’s attention on the relationship between the police and the public.

“Fundamental questions are being asked, and rightfully so,” he said. “The way we go about policing has to change.”

Police Commissioner William J. Bratton said the retraining would require some 22,000 officers to complete a three-day course.

He provided further details at a City Council hearing in September, including learning “de-escalation” techniques.

this isn't about color... many people have been "harmed" by police who think they can do whatever they want... to whom ever they want...

sadly it is the poor who cant hire a fancy attorney who suffer..

police should be required to inform you of the law you are breaking before they try to arrest you.. I have see countless cases of a person getting charged with disorderly persons and resisting arrest..

yep the person was disorderly because they were being arrested for no reason...

Often Blue has a tighter bond then black... :?

these cases are not about race, as much as the liberals would like you to think... but more about out of control police officers.

Yep, it just goes back to what the media is portraying it as. They like protests.
