This is a picture of the Union Stockyards at South Omaha Nebraska. This was copied from a slidemy sister copied, I belive she copied it wrong side to the screen. I took this picture about 1970.
The Union Stockyards discontinued operation in 1999, after 115 years. Although a man named John Smiley had a stockyard there some years earlier, Western Nebraska and Wyoming Stockmen, Wm Paxton, Herman Kountze, and John Creighton were the founders of Union Stockyards.
It alwayed amazed me of the activity surrounding the stockyards there. Of all the people who dirived their livelyhood from the livestock industry.
