It is supposed to arrive here by Sat.

Got my heavy breds sorted and moved to their calving area today. Nikki worked her magic, but then again the girls were (well most) on their best behaviour.

Please be kind January .

Last year it was Jan 1st ,but I found that was just too much to get ready for and do Christmas for everyone. So I pushed my AI'ing back 2 weeks and turning the bull in 3 weeks with the group that I chose not to AI. The first 5 are do on the 23th and all the rest anytime after . Within 2 weeks all bets are off.

I chose to start early in the year because of a few things , we are seed stock producers and that it was either lose a season and move them to June and July or move them up to calve when things are still frozen. Since I started ( I am the newbie in my area of people that have celebrated their centennial of ranching ) many other cattlemen have started doing the same .. So maybe just maybe I am not certifiable. :p it takes more work but the end result is worth it.
Yep, I am still nuts.. But at least it keeps me out of trouble ,,somewhat ..

Yep they say the Pineapple Express (lots of moisture from Hawaii) is going to sweep in and meet up with polar air from the top of the world- and the resulting marriage will create 6-18" of snow and wind-- followed by a period of 20 to 30 Below temps in our area.....

Yesterdays 40 degree temps put a pretty good crust on the old snow-- but sure will allow the new stuff to blow.....

Been raining here for the last couple of hours. Have an east wind blowing. It is getting colder.
waiting for it to change to either freezing rain or snow.

Not looking forward to going outside. It is slick.

Well let me invite you to come run cows in Southern Ontario where you will see far fewer such storms, not many really strong winds and with temperatures like today's -10C or 14F. Fork out $10,000 an acre, run 1 pair on a little less than 2 acres/year and you can have the best land to boot!

Paradise! Simply paradise. :???:

I noticed that on the radar- looks like all the central part of the state is getting rain, sleet, and turning to snow....
Weather folks say it will all be snow by the time it gets here- with 25mph wind.. But they have dropped the predicted amount back from 12-18" to 5 to 7" now between tonight and Sunday...
And then its supposed to turn miserably cold- and now they are predicting we could get hit midweek with the storm northern Canada is getting now- and more snow- and more cold....

WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY... COLD AIR WILL SPILL OVER FROM THE
CANADIAN PLAINS AND PUSH DOWN INTO PLAINS AGAIN. THIS WILL FLATTEN
OUT THE NORTHWEST FLOW INTO A ZONAL PATTERN AND ALLOW A STRONG
SHORT WAVE TO MOVE ACROSS THE HIGH PLAINS. POSITION OF THE SHORT
WAVE IS UNCERTAIN BUT THE AREAS THAT DOES SEE THE WAVE CAN
ANTICIPATED 4 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW ALONG WITH THE STORM. STRENGTH
OF THE COLD PUSH IN THE PATTERN IS ALSO SUGGESTIVE OF STRONG WINDS
AT THIS TIME BUT COULD EASILY SLACKEN WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE RUNS.

THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT... WHILE MODEL UNCERTAINTY
VARIES THIS FAR OUT BOTH GFS AND EC ARE SHOWCASING SOME OF THE
COLDEST TEMPERATURES OF THE SEASON FOR EASTERN MONTANA. 850 MB
TEMPERATURES DROP TO A SPREAD OF -22*C TO -30*C.

Started snowing here about a 1/2 hour ago... Temp is still 22 and ESE wind is about 20mph....

Long range forecast predicts when the temp drops tommorrow we will be in the deep freeze for a couple of weeks.... :(

Well I woke up to the same old stuff- snow, wind, dreary and drifting...Weather folks are calling it moderate snow and ice fog with 25 mph E winds.....Predicting heavy snow for later in the day- and snow to hang around now thru Sunday...

I'm not sure what we'd do if we actually got a full day of sunshine- afraid we might all go blind!!!
