BELLFLOWER, Calif. - The octuplets born to a mother in Southern California are doing "very, very well" and breathing on their own, one of their doctors said Tuesday.

Dr. Mandhir Gupta, a neonatologist at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center, told ABC's "Good Morning America" the eight babies were in stable condition.

Two of the newborns - the second live octuplets born in U.S. history - were initially put on ventilators, but their breathing tubes have been removed.

"Only three babies need some sort of oxygen through the nose right now but they are breathing on their own," Gupta said. "The babies are doing actually very, very well."

Well I thought it was a pretty interesting story when I first heard it this morning!! And guess what, I had close to the same thought as Mike expressed " Wow, that's quite a litter of kids!!" So I guess that makes me crude and tacky as well. I sure feel for that family, they will have a ton of challenges!

I just heard this on TV news and all I could think was OMG I pity her. One newborn can be demading BUT 8. I pray the family has the support of the whole neighborhood as that is what it is going to take until a routine can be set up. There will be little to no sleeping going on in that house for a very long time.

The litter is going to be breast fed. Hope they do not ear notch them.
I am sure they have had a iron shot this morning. 3 to 1.8 pounds would be a smaller than some new born piglets. Really kinda a sad deal but god bless them hope good health
