Who supports a woman's right not to be oppressed?

Ivanka and Melania Trump go without headscarves in Saudi Arabia visit

US first lady Melania Trump stepped off Air Force One in Riyadh on Saturday conservatively dressed in long sleeves and pants, to conform to the strict dress code Saudi Arabia enforces for its female citizens. One thing was missing: a headscarf. Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, an assistant to her father who is accompanying him on his trip, also did not cover her head.

Under the kingdom’s strict dress code for women, most female visitors are required to wear a loose black robe, known as an abaya, in public.

Michelle Obama is not impressed: Grim-faced First Lady meets the Saudi king as members of his entourage refuse to shake her hand

The president and Mrs Obama cut short their trip to India to pay their respects to the Saudi Arabian royal family on the death of King Abdullah
But the First Lady did not look happy during the brief trip to Riyadh to meet the new King Salman
During a meet and greet with Saudi dignitaries, many of the men refused to shake her hand

She was also criticized by Saudis and the Muslim world at large on Twitter for not covering her hair.

According to tweets gathered by Al-Ahram, Egypt's largest daily newspaper, many Saudis expressed outrage that Mrs Obama wore a veil to visit a mosque in Indonesia, but went without one on this condolence trip to their country. Mrs Obama also donned a sheer black veil when she met the Catholic Pope in Vatican City.

If you bow once, it is expected... so by her and her husband subjecting themselves to the muslim oppression, they soon found few respected them once they stepped out of line.

No cover-up: Michelle Obama’s political message to Saudis

It begs the question over why Mrs Obama chose to wear a headscarf in Indonesia and not in Saudi Arabia. Intentional or not, under Islamic law (Sharia) the act of not covering your head could be seen as political.

One can easily see the difference in how the Saudis' reacted to the differing political gestures,,, Trumps' strength, Bush's loyalty, and Obama's weak kneed cowering.

I did not post the demeaning picture of President Obama's wife as it is oppressive.. it can easily be found for those wishing to see a woman in a scarf scowling at her circumstances. (as well as more of her scowling in Saudi Arabia.)

Sometimes it isn't about politics, but class and demeanor,.. one can easily see who has class and who is de meaner.

Obama's chilly reception in Saudi Arabia hints at mutual distrust

US president’s low-key arrival and meeting with King Salman underscores tension that has deepened over US policy

Barack Obama arrived to a noticeably low-key reception in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday against a background of mutual irritation in a relationship tested by a turbulent Middle East, plummeting oil prices and economic and political uncertainty.

The US president was greeted at the airport by the governor of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Bandar Al Saud, and the event was not broadcast live on Saudi TV, as is routine with visiting heads of state – quickly generating talk of a snub.

The president’s recent comment that the Saudis and Iranians should “share the neighbourhood” angered officials in Riyadh, leading to sharp public criticism of an American “pivot” towards the Islamic Republic in the run up to last summer’s landmark nuclear agreement.

Mustafa Alani, a Gulf security analyst who is close to the Saudi establishment, said Obama would find a leadership “that’s not ready to believe him”. The decision not to send a high-level delegation to the airport was intended to signal that they have little faith in him.

so maybe talking of a muslim ban isn't looked at as hatred in the middle east, but as a reality and one of strength?

The focus of the criticisms has been on the Arab states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and the UAE). The international community has questioned the GCC countries’ contribution to resolving the Syrian refugee crisis in countless social media posts and discussions.

According to a 2014 report entitled “Left Out In The Cold“ by human rights organization Amnesty International, the GCC had not officially resettled a single Syrian refugee since the crisis began in 2011.

Austria recently passed a ban on the burka... following several other European countries..

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen publicly opposed the ban earlier this year and said “t is every woman’s right to always dress how she wants.”

“And it is not only Muslim women, all women can wear a headscarf, and if this real and rampant Islamaphobia continues, there will come a day where we must ask all women to wear a headscarf – all – out of solidarity to those who do it for religious reasons,” Van der Bellen said.

out of solidarity to oppression? We must ask all,... all? ask like they do in Afghanistan? Saudi Arabia? do liberals actually think before they talk?

BTW, the ban only covers full face burka,... not the head scarf.
Austria's governing coalition has agreed to ban full-face veils in courts, schools and other "public places"

"We believe in an open society that is also based on open communication. Full-body veils in public spaces stand against that and will therefore be prohibited," said the text of the coalition agreement published on Monday.

The term used would apply to the Muslim burka and niqab, which cover all or most of the face. Various Burka bans have also been approved by MPs in Belgium, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, France and Switzerland.

The agreement also bans police officers, judges and magistrates and public prosecutors from wearing head scarves in the interest of appearing "ideologically and religiously neutral".

but hidden in the message is this..
The full 35-page statement included increased security measures and forcing migrants to sign an "integration contract" and a "statement of values".

"Those who are not prepared to accept Enlightenment values will have to leave our country and society," according to the text.

‘Take on our values or LEAVE’ Austria plans migrant tests amid Islamic full-face veil ban!

A new 35-page document added migrants living in Austria will have to agree to an “integration contract” and a “statement of values”.

Migrants entering Austria will have to attend classes for 12 months, where they will then have to pass German language test. Migrants will also have to undertake a separate test to deem whether they have assimilated with Austrian values, according to Austrian government documents.

The ‘integration law’ also includes mandatory attendance of German value courses for all refugees and migrants arriving in Austria. Those who refuse to attend the courses, would be ‘fined’ by having their social benefits cut, the draft proposal says.

While there is no specific ban on headscarfs for civil servants, which was touted by far-rights groups, the guidance does insist employees “present themselves as religiously neutral”.

Details on how Austria will boost its security services has also included in the document.

The proposals read: “Those who are not prepared to accept Enlightenment values will have to leave our country and society.”

That should just about push the liberal left over a cliff... And make those freedom loving muslims look for a friendlier country with better welfare benefits. Maybe Hawaii would take them all in?
