Women of ranchersnet, I need your opinion!

Best friend and I got into a discussion about what falls into the category of a personal gift. He says a heating pad would be considered personal, I say not. In my opinion, anything with a cord attached is not personal. What do you all say? Yes or no?

No need for the cord.

There are some "battery powered" items available that could be considered personal gifts. Very personal.

Condoms would be a "personal" gift :lol2: :lol2: So would deoderant.

I guess I would think it this way: if I gave a gift to someone, would they take it personally?? In other words, would they be offended? If someone I didn't know very well sent me an expensive gift certificate to a spa, I would be offended because I would think there is motive behind it, or that something is expected from me in return.

I can't think of anything small attached to a cord that someone would take "personally" , therefore not a "personal" gift. I agree with Kato, they are gadgets.

Now I'm seeing the word "personal" and it's looking jibberish

Sheesh, hope this helps somewhat

Clear as mud, Hanta! Gadget is the right word, thanks Kato. Now what I mean by personal gift, is something that he or she likes, and would have meaning to that particular person.

Let's maybe tell the rest of the story now.Shelly's knee has been bothering her the last week or so.Yesterday when she jumped into my truck she twisted it.So today when we were in town i bought her a heating pad,and told her happy valentines day.I thought it was a very thoughtful gift considering her knee was screwed up,she didn't want it.

3words - I think it was a thoughtful gift
Shelly - Say thankyou and enjoy the heating pad :)

I don't think it would be considered 'personal' but it darn sure should feel good to your knee. It was a thoughtful gift at any rate, and something you might need to use in the future.

It's the thought that counts!!!

A Valentine's gift should come from your boyfriend/husband, not your best male friend. I think 3words did a nice thing for you, he's a guy and threw in the "Happy Valentine's" into it. It's nice to know the rest of the story.....

PS just MHO, please don't be mad at me

A heating pad for Valentines day is about as romantic as my hubby getting me coveralls for Valentines day several yrs ago...trust me..he won't do that again..lol Yes the heating pad was a nice thing,,but not for Valentines Day!

He picked out something that you especially needed and hadn't thought to buy for yourself. I'd say he gets an A+++.

To me an impersonal gift is the "typical" gift anyone would give which requires NO thought or creativity on the part of the giver eg. box of chocolate, flowers. Nice but ho-hum and won't be remembered as special a year later.

A heating pad on the other hand will be remembered!

OK, you all just proved to me I'm shallow.

Yes, it would've been nice to get something from my husband, but seeing as he is hundreds of miles away from me at the moment, it wasn't possible.

As I'm helping the best friend tag, castrate, vaccinate, and move pairs today, I'll tell him thank you (which I did yesterday, BTW).

But the man has got alot to learn about buying a gift for a woman! Just my opinion.

Hanta, I'm not po'd at you either.

Two years ago I got my wife a dish washer for valentines and she absolutely loved it. Although I did run the idea by my MIL first just to make sure I wouldn't be shot.

Things are going okay. Had a couple of problems with my water, got that taken care of. I keep myself busy as I can, go over to the friend's every day if I can to help with the cows and calves. John phones me every night to tell me about his day (we're going to have a horrendous cell phone bill). As long as he's working, he's happy, but if it gets too cold, they shut down, then he's bored. He eats very well up there, I don't think he's gonna like coming home to my cooking. As for when he comes back, don't know. Hopefully this week coming up for a few days, but then he's going back for another two or three weeks. His foreman doesn't want him to leave, only because John knows what he's doing and they don't have to put someone new into his D8 that doesn't.
