world war 2

I'm not an expert on military history. But it interests me and I try to learn. During WWII one German bomber got lost and accidently bombed London. The response from Winston Churchhill was massive air strikes against Industrial complexes in Germany with complete disregard for civilian casualties. This is a fact. With the demise of the German luftwaffe (german airforce) the allies continued to pound targets with disregard to civilian casualites. Allied pilots would bomb historic castles on their way back to Engaland to get rid of unexpended ordnance. American bombers dropped fire bombs (a bomb that would encourage fires. Houses were made of wood with paper walls. You've seen the movies to understand this) on major cities in Japan that had no strategic importance. The idea was to kill civilians supporting the war effort and demorilize the population. (My Mother was born on Okinawa, Japan. She was 7 years old when American soldiers landed there. I've heard her stories, she didn't tell them often. Thousands of civilians died. Private School girls were kicked out of thier schools to make room for hospital facilites for injured Japanese soldiers. The Japanese school girls hid in caves in the Mountains of the island. Many of them died. American soldiers would throw grenades in the caves before entering. ) Finally, we (the Americans) droped two atomic bombs on innocent women and children on the mainland of Japan. It was done to save the lives of our best. The soldiers that would have had to fight for every inch of ground if we had done it differently. We cannot win this war by being nice!! This war will continue until the American people throw all.. all their support behind the effort. Abu Grahb. Big deal. Pictures of naked prisoners. So what. If I were captured by the enemy I'd be happey if thats all they did. The enemy is decapitating civilians. They are not torturing prisoners secretly like the VC in Vietnam. They are showing us thier brutality. I'm done with this post and getting another beer.

WWII was the last war that affected all of us. We had gasoline rationing and shortages of consumer products like women’s stockings. News was censored to get the message across that the nation was at war. It was all aimed at making Americans feel participation in the par.

No president since Frank Roosevelt has had the stones to crank up the populace. The result has been unpopular wars from Korea to Viet Nam to Middle East wars of today.

What’s the answer? Don’t go to war unless all of us participate in the sacrifice our brave soldiers are making. A successful war requires participation from all of us.
