I didn't write it down but Rapid Creek sold today in Philip weighing in the mid 500's and brought in the mid 1.30's. Pushing 300 head brought that!!!!!

I know, Dad was there. We tried to buy a couple loads, but fell short each time. Rapid Creek has real good cattle, all red angus bred back to red angus. Say what you want about black hides out selling everything else, but try to tell Harvey to switch :) He sold steers last week and they topped their weight class and were still $10 back from their heifers. That is PROFIT! I love to see a customer do good!!!

Rapid Creek still has around 700 heifers at home that they plan to winter for a while, and they want to breed 500 of them next spring.

I am a bit biased but I really liked the 40 or so red baldie heifers. I commented to my neighbor sitting next to me that I had never seen a whole load of red baldie heifers. He bought the 20 black heifers to put with his Charolais bulls. I thought his boy might make a run at the baldies but I think the price was too high.
This saturday John Knutson is selling 100 Red Angus cows bred back to Red Angus bulls. Top notch cattle but he sold 1800 acres and needs to get his numbers right.

I don't know John. Hopefully they will sell well for him.

You are right those baldies will make a great set of cows. It is nice to see good cattle sell high, even if they aren't the popular color!!!

Just got back from the cow sale. John's coming 5's and coming 6's all brought over $1400. The coming 7's brought $1250. I guess that would be considered pretty good when the whole winter is in front of us.

In spite of the "Black Color" fad that has been promulgated by the Angus Association, (and, of course, other desirable factors, traits and characteristics are in concert with the black color!) many producers are recognizing that cattle other than black-hided one's have desirable beef properties to exploit for profit.

However, that having been said, the fact that the color "black' has been associated with the Angus Breed, that does not guarantee that black color guarantees excellent quality beef ONLY!

Subsequent improvement in other breeding protocols and breeds has revealed that excellent quality beef cattle are capable of being produced with a variety of mating systems, cross-breeding plans, and little-known and unfamiliar breeds coming to the fore in meat quality, marbling, rib-eye size, juiciness, tenderness, taste, feed efficiency and consumer acceptance.

I am in the process of doing some investigative and interview sessions with some Beef Cattle Breeders of yet another little-known breed that is literally 'blowing my mind' with the produced statistics of the live cattle production, and the 'meat-on-the-rail " results! . . .and "SHOCK" is right! I have never seen marbling and lack of backfat like this breed produces! NEVER! . . .even in a crossbreeding program with several other breeds

I have not completed my work yet, - but - . . . STAY TUNED! It's coming!

Sounds real good Doug. I would be happy with those prices, and he should be too. I think this may be the year for the red coat. We have had more interest on our upcoming bull and heifer sale than ever before. Maybe it is due to the good moisture or maybe Red Angus is finally getting the respect they deserve, not real sure. But the red coat owners are finally getting paid and I am loving it.

Good for John!!!
