Obama May Bring Criminal Charges Against Bush

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden said he and presidential hopeful Barack Obama could bring criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

“If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued,” Biden said during a campaign stop in Florida on Monday, ABC News reported.

“Not out of vengeance, not out of retribution. Out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president — no one is above the law.”

Biden promised that an Obama-Biden government would go through Bush administration data with "a fine-toothed comb" and pursue criminal charges if necessary.

Democrats in Congress have issued subpoenas this year to senior Bush administration aides as part of an investigation into the authorization of torture tactics at the detention center in Guantanamo Bay.

And Obama vowed in April that if elected, he would ask his attorney general to investigate Bush administration actions to see if “genuine crimes” have been committed.

He told the Philadelphia Daily News: “If crimes have been committed, they should be investigated.”

A man who voted for infanticide can point fingers? A man who looks directly into the camera and lies? What a flipping punk....

More flowery words. Here's how I see it: If Obama is elected and finds there was criminal activity, he MIGHT bring charges against a couple of lower level people. If he were to bring charges against President Bush, it would be seen as "retribution and vengeance", regardless of their intentions. The American people don't want that, IMO. They just want to move on. I think Obama is smart enough to understand that. Remember what happened to most of the Republican House managers that prosecuted President Clinton? Yup, they got booted in the next election.

Regardless of what the Bush-haters might think, the vast majority of the American people don't hate him. Sure, they don't think he's doing a very dam good job, but that's a far cry from hate. I hear people sometimes calling for Bush's impeachment. Why hasn't it happened? I'll tell you. The people who truly hate Bush are a small minority. If there was a huge groundswell of support for his impeachment it would have happened by now.
