Maybe they should quieten down those sirens. Or give them earplugs?

PITTSBURGH (AP) Four Pittsburgh firefighters are suing seven companies that manufacture fire trucks or sirens, claiming they've lost hearing due to the blaring sirens.

The firefighters range in age from 38 to 62 and joined the city's fire bureau between 1975 and 2000.

They're claiming that Mack Trucks Inc., Seagrave Fire Apparatus LLC and five other firms "knew or should have known the products ... were inherently dangerous, defective and hazardous to human hearing."

The men claim they've suffered irreversible hearing loss "due to exposure to the intense noise."

The firefighters are seeking unspecified monetary damages and are not suing the city.

They contend the manufacturers should have insulated the sirens to protect their hearing and/or provided warnings about their use.

I should sue Browning Arms for the loss of hearing in my right ear (left handed shooter). I'd like to know how many rounds that little 20 gauge Browning Auto Five 3" magnum had run through it.

If I recall correctly, I paid $212 for that shotgun in the early 70's and hunted with it for the rest of my hunting days.......killed my first buck with that shotgun and hunted rabbits, squirrels, doves, rails, snipe, quail, ducks and geese as well. I didn't take it to Canada with me because in its old age it had a habit of freezing up and not ejecting in really cold weather. Of course, I had a bad habit of freezing up as well.

Never had a shotgun bother my ears but then I always pulled the trigger with the correct/right hand, even tho' I'm left eye dominant.

What gets me is pistol shooting. If you don't wear both plugs and muffs with this .454 Casull, you don't hear for a week.

I shot a 44 mag one time without plugs/muffs. Wished I hadn't.

Oh, and woodcock. Killed a pile of woodcock as well with that 20 Auto 5. :D
