many if not all people would quickly say there was a need for unions.
at one point, (well before I was born), with out unions workers were at the mercy of company owners.. and some of those owners were downright tyrannical..
today the unions fight is against the government, and corporations...
and like it or not we are the stakeholders in the government and the stockholders in corporations..
so in effect the union (which controls huge pension funds) is actually often fighting against itself.. and making a huge payout for the top players, while the actual employee gets thrown a few twigs to pacify themselves.. while their pension funds drown in red ink..
so what re they doing for you today.. (other then running your pension fund into the ground) and collecting a huge salary benefit package that rivals most government executive packages?
and they do this while forcing dues on low paid part time employees who get few benefits from the union today..
Well I am certainly glad that workers today(especially those in foreign countries) are not at the mercy of the corporations.
Yes, unions fight against the gov. and corporations since most of congress is controlled/bought by corporate interests. And they do give money to politicians, what other recourse do they have?? BTW I am a retired union employee or so I am told, and I paid gladly into my pension fund which allowed me to retire at 59. Our pension fund is solid as a rock, I couldn't have retired without it. Having said all this there does have to be compromises on BOTH SIDES to make everything work out for the best.
I wonder, how many working people are unionized?
