Been picking out replacement heifers. Should finish up today. I think I kind of understand how "The Bachelor" must feel when he's handing out roses. There are some easy choices and there are some not so easy choices.

One thing we learned to do from a very respected cattleman, was to get the heifers in an alleyway so you can see their behinds (we do this with each individual) and look to see if we can see the start of an udder. Of course that was back when there weren't EPD's and doing this helped to eliminate heifers that weren't going to be good milkers. FWIW
If you have a lot of heifers that could be time consuming.

A pretty good cowman once shared with me that he looked at a heifer's back. If she was built right there, she was usually good all the way through. He was cow boss at Alkali Lake Ranch for nearly 50 years.
