    Cave family

My neighbor and the local mechanic built something similar. They took a Farmall with the same narrow front end and put a Bank's turbo-charged Chevy diesel in it. They use it in parades and they do use it in the fields from time to time. They have clocked it at 60 mph on the paved road, and claim...

    Montana Story

Hey we're not all idiots on the coast. We do have an abundance of them I could send to you Blk. I got more than enough around here to share with you.

    Mountain Lion Hunting

I don't know about Wash., but here in NW CA they are pretty thick since our ban went into effect. 1994 I think. Higher losses of deer and calves around my neighborhood.

Wild cattle catchers needed in California!

Cowcatcher, I didn't mean to imply anything. It's just that North CA is a big place and a lot rougher than people think. Don't want you to think you would be chasing cows through the redwood forests in the AM and laying on the beach in the sun in the PM. I'm curious about where this job is...

Wild cattle catchers needed in California!

So where in CA? What forest and ranger district? Mort has the right idea for N. CA, you use a lot of dogs and horse up in a hurry. Most of our area is very steep and very brushy. If there is truly that many slicks there is a reason they haven't been caught. Sounds like there is more to the story...

    Help me name my dog...

Whatever you do, stand outside your house and yell the dog's name as loud as you can. It's a good test if you'll like the name. If it embarasses you or your wife, pick another name.

    Question for everyone????

If you can keep your day jobs while building a herd, that might be best. If you can do it without borrowing money even better. Then you don't work for the banker but yourself. You can always quit a day job if the cattle work out. If they don't you have something to fall back on and you are not...

    Question for everyone????

Just remember if it doesn't work on paper, and you have to be realistic wtih your figures, it won't work in the real world. Hard work alone doesn't cut it anymore. Marketing and business classes are almost a necessity to run cows anymore. Good Luck.

    4 Wheelers

I've had pretty good luck with both Honda and Suzuki. I prefer the smaller 4wd atv's like the 300's. If they get too big they are hard to handle, and some are the size of a small pick-up. The main thing is to change the oil on a regular basis and find something your wife is comfortable with. I...

    Another horse scenario

Mort, I agree with you and I'm familar with your area, just curious if you knew what the outcome was. I guess my point was, we are going to see alot more of this and who is getting called to deal with these "strays" in your area.

    Another horse scenario

Mort or Nicky, I heard of two cases of horses being dumped on BLM this winter. What happened with them? Horse rescue? BLM corrals? Did they find those who did it? I think it was in the Bend/Prineville area. I think we are going to see alot more of this by "responsible" owners if the anti's win.

    Another horse scenario

Soapweed is right, Life is to short to put up with cows that hunt, and horses that will get somebody hurt. Sometimes the best training or top genetics don't work, and the best you can do isn't enough to get a positive outcome. I'd rather sell a bad one at a loss and come back to work and family...

    Windbreak Question, need your help

My friend has bought Mr. Fry's program hook, line and sinker, and I worry about him,but there's no changing his mind. My salesmanship isn't as slick. I'm not knocking the Devon breed, just this program which I don't believe will work in our area. As far as straw failures I only have 1-2 a year...
