Big Swede,
I'm glad you posted. That was the last thing I expected to hear. The grass is always greener on the other side! lol. With our last ranch we ran corriente mainly because we only had two wells on the entire ranch and the corrientes were the only breed that would run for miles to...
I would like to hear from other ranchers as to why they are using a particular breed cattle. We have mostly angus and angus cross and are considering introducing another breed to gain some hybrid vigor with our calves. We are in a northern AZ high desert ranch with lots of water and good feed...
I believe the well is around 350-400 feet, the pump is set at 302 feet. It stopped pumping about a month ago so we had a local well driller come out and look at it. He pulled the pump and tested it and ground level with a generator and said the pump was faulty. So we took the pump back to the...
So we have been hauling water for cattle ever since our pasture well stopped pumping last month. It turns out our well casing is so old that it is rusting out and falling to the bottom of the well causing us to bring our pump up higher and higher to get to clean water. Now, we are at the point...
I thought about this idea also and did some research into it. It seems like the idea does work but the road block I found was that the metal roofing was so expensive it may not be worth it. At a little over a $1 per sq ft. And I would need around 1500 sq ft of roofing plus the cost of the...
Here is an update... The cummins 3/4 ton handled the weight just fine. We had to use low range 4x4 on the hills and rough spots. We did decide to use only one of the water tanks at a time on the flatbed because we don't want to prematurely wear out some of the drive train components like the...
Haha yeah, the good news is that we will be emptying the water into multiple troughs as we go up the hill so when we get to the really rocky part more than 1/2 the water will already be unloaded off the truck.
We will be hauling water for around 60 head and just during the dry months. Once the monsoon rains come our dirt tanks will all fill back up and last us most the year. My biggest concern is the weight of 660 gallons on a 90 dodge 250 cummins 4x4 flatbed. I may start with one full tank and see...
We have a full time ranch hand that is going to be doing the hauling of the water, so they are getting paid whether they are hauling water or just looking around for something productive to do :) And the distance is not far. Just up to the higher elevation parts of our ranch (about 6 miles)...
