    Iowa Winter 2016-17

Just maybe the most unbelievable in my lifetime. Very little snow (Des Moines has had only 9 inches for the winter) and now comes this forecast, the only ones not liking this winter are those who push snow and who run winter recreation um "ski slopes". It's been so dry since last fall, i'm...

    Early Oct. weather

WX Radio just went off here for a severe thunderstorm watch until 5am. Good luck to those who are in line for winter weather. I'm guessing with the leaves still on the trees, it's gong to get ugly.

    Blizzard Warning!

Looks like 8-12 inches of snow with extremely strong winds is expected in my neck of the woods. Sorry, I don't know what that translate to for our Canadian neighbors. We'll take the moisture anyway we can get it and the NWS is already watching a potential Christmas storm as well.

The winter that wasn't is turning into the spring that wasnt

Simply unbelievable. One of the pluses of a nearly snow less winter, heard on the radio this morning that the Iowa DOT saved nearly $15 million on snow removal costs and that money will be used for road repairs this spring & summer.

Only 8 percent of Iowa corn crop is planted

Thankfully it was near 80 (F) this weekend and will be pushing 90 (F) by Tuesday....just what the doctor ordered. Talked to a buddy of mine last weekend who farms in SW Iowa and he had "the hammer dropped" and would be going as long as he could handle. More inside the link...

    First time tonight....

just kicked the furnace on, went downstairs to grab a night cap from my beer fridge and with the windows closed, the thermostat was showing 63 and with lows going down to the 30's, it's time to say goodbye to summer and hello to winter :(

    Iowa Flooding

Here we go again. Rivers, creeks, etc. really haven't been normal all year, given all of the snow and ice melt we had in the spring that was followed by what has been an extremely wet summer. Des Moines now has more rain at this point of the year than at any other time in history, including...

Ralston, NE 4th of July Parade

My Aunt who passed away back in May lived along the Ralston, NE 4th of July parade route and every 4th of July was her chance to host the family for a wild party. This year, we gathered one last time before the house is sold to have a good time. Ralston is a suburb of Omaha. Most years, the...

    Great News!

My father-in-law's leukemia is in remission! After losing an Aunt 3 weeks ago due to cancer, i'm very happy about the news, espically for my 8 year old son as he's had to deal with all of this. What's remarkable about my father-in-law is that other than losing a few pounds, you would never...
