    Storm worse than expected

    I'm forty miles southeast of kearney and ice was bad... At my place I still dont have power, but at my dads we got it back yesterday at 4 pm.. after losing it at 7:20 am on saturday.. We have a winpower pto generator so we could pump water for the cattle.. They were on stalks three miles away...

    running corn stalks

    We also fill ours up with hay before we put em on stalks..The year is real bad.. Lot of corn on the ground, we were lucky and didnt have to pick alot up off the ground, but there was some.. Put out some sodium bicarbonate this year cause of all the corn in the field.

    Seems like a lot of people having to gather cattle.. I have to go tomorrow to Ocanto, Nebraska and help a friend gather cows.. There is some grass but not enough to carry.. Gonna be intresting with a broken rib and this cornstalk cowboy trying to chase cows out of the hills. :wink:

    Right now I perfer Skoal Fine Cut myself.. but every now and then I like Skoal long cut mint or wintergreen.. I started chewing when I was about 15... Used to steal copenhagen from Grandpa when I was younger than that, not sure why but it always seemed fun to do.. Its not the best habit to have...

    I have insurance on my cattle.. Almost everyone around here does.. They insure they're cattle like they do the crops and buildings, veichles etc... Not many do around you Oldtimer? Just wondering its always nice to learn how they do things in diffrent areas.

    Fire fighting rigs

    We're like Denny.. One of our places a mile and a half from town, and my home place is 5 miles from town.. I'm a volunteer fireman in town by my dads place as it is also the town I work in... We have two tanker trucks, one large pump truck and one attack rig(for grass fires).. And so far already...

    2006 Chevrolet trucks

    My brother recently bought a 2006 Chevolet 2500 4 door longbox 4X4 with a 6000 vortec in it and just loves it.. And it seems to handle the stocktrailer pretty well.. But I'm still ashamed he bought a chevy... Brings a tear to my eye when were hauling cattle and that chevy pulls behind or a ahead...

    YOUR #1 REASON FOR CULLING A COW

    I would say temperment is a big one here... I can handle a few over protective cows during calving... But wild fence jumping cows, head to market pretty fast around here.. But like you said sometimes age and bad bags. I have some cows that are 13 years old and really good shape and pretty good...

    Last I had heard... Gottsch Feedyard was paying 85 a ton for alfalfa.. but.. And haven't heard what straw is going for... Sure is a lot getting baled around here this year though..
