    Gas Powered T-Post Driver

We are looking at these too and would welcome any comments. So far the Skidril one looks like it has an option to handle T posts all the way up to 4". We have a similar pounder to Big Muddy, but we have a lot of ground where we can't get at things with a tractor (or even a quad). Others...

    Interesting Read

Here is our new cutter running this week. Just turn your head sideways... I was going too fast to remember to turn the phone or look back. https://www.facebook.com/sean.mcgrath.1485/videos/10155964693764624/ This was greenfeed at 10mph. I got onto a hayfield after and averaged 12.5. Since we...

    Disc mower

Interesting. We just bought a Pottinger that we should be picking up this week. Watched them at the Farm Show in Langham and was impressed. They are also more than $30K less than a Deere or similar. We got the option of an extra support behind the cutter bar for rocky ground, high and medium...

    Balers, Vermeer vs John Deere

We run an older 535 that is very good but if we had a local Vermeer dealer, we would be switched already. They are $12-14K cheaper than the JD, just as heavy built and anyone I talk to that has run both, loves the Vermeer over the JD. The JD balers are good and we have good local parts...

    John Deere 6E series tractors

We went to a 714 Fendt. It is older, but... it was still $20,000 cheaper than what our dealer wanted for a Deere with 20 less horsepower and 4000 more hours. It has increased our productivity roughly 20% on every job, including baling and it cut my fuel bill by 50%. I went over my fuel bills...

    Chain saws

Finally shelled out on a proper Stihl a couple of years ago and kick myself we never did it sooner. Do the maintenance on it, and use the Stihl canned gas and it works better than any saw we have ever owned. I am currently looking at one of the cordless Stihl ones. A neighbour bought his wife...

    John Deere 6E series tractors

My wife's uncle has the predecessor D series and really likes it. My JD mechanic neighbour says that the 4 cylinder motors are not as good as the 6 (FWIW). We moved away from a Deere tractor last year (first time in 30+ years) and I will not likely go back.

Bonnie and Clyde pulling a wagon in 1969

I think a good idea would be to present each grandchild with a mule for their birthday over the coming year. They could put a real hitch together...

    Anybody familiar with Arrow 8500

Same as our Qcatch from Lakeland. They are FANTASTIC. Very little maintenance and catch everything from calves to bulls.

    Tractors

They are fairly basic without a lot of electronics (I think this is a good thing). Lots of power, I think the newer ones have wet disc brakes. They have a wet clutch (also a good thing). Tranny options on the older ones might be a bit less handy than the 4440. Better fuel economy than the...

    Tractor Tires

Our 4240 has 20.8x34 that are near and dear. They are about $600 more than an 18.4x38. We wound up getting a set of less used duals off Kijiji for $500 (for the set). Don't want to think about what they would cost now.

    Tire Tank

We use a tarp over the trough and a propane torch inside an old steel tank heater. A propane space heater under a tarp works great as well if you have the water turned off.

    Flatbed and Cake Feeder

When you put it that way that's nearly 3 years worth of fuel here, but it does not lessen my need to find excuses for fun road trips. :D

    Flatbed and Cake Feeder

So am I correct in saying that a Hydrabed is only around $9500 USD? Pretty well all the ones I looked at at Agritrade up here (Red Deer AB) were about $15K. The difference would pay for the road trip.

    John Deere 6400

Our 4240 was a real tough start, but we use synthetic 0-40 year round and added a circulating heater. 1/2 hour plugged in and it will start in -40. The circulating heater is nice as it warms the antifreeze and the entire block.

What is the primary truck brand on your operation?

It will outgo the F250 in any terrain. It is very stable as the motor is low and centered. It is better in 2WD than the Ford in 4x4. Still won't beat the horse though.

What is the primary truck brand on your operation?

Our main truck is an "other". 660cc of hair raising power with 4x4 and a 6 speed. 45mpg highway, 60mpg off road. Plated and drive to townable. Fantastic advertising space Hydraulic dump and trailer hitch. I use the F250 to pull a 16' gooseneck with a saddle horse, but we use this little...

    Round Bale Transport

I think I would take a look at one of these as well. http://www.haukaas.com/bale-cart/ Price - probably way too much.
