    Are feedlots "Producers"?

I think this is a regional thing, myself. we've lived in areas where almost everyone implanted, and in areas where no one implants. We have yet to live on a ranch that implants...

    Cutting Studs

My thoughts as well. Maybe if we had a lot more horses to cut that the $50 a head was getting pricey, I might have a different tune. But as is, as often as we don't need it done, the vet is my choice.

    Ranches

Must be out of my territory. I don't recognize the name.

    Ranches

Ooh... The Star. that reminds me: My husband spent part of his childhood on the Joy ranch (preDeseret, that is) and on Monahans.

    Ranches

Fawn Lake sold to Turner, too? Milligans sold the U Cross side of the place to Turner in '98, I believe. But as of '00 (when my husband looked at a job with them) they still owned Fawn Lake (and the U Cross brand). They live in eastern NE, somewhere. Fremont, or therabouts, if I'm thinking...

    Our strange coyote

They'll follow along behind a bale feeder if you let them, too. Waiting for mice to fall out of the bale as it unrolls.

    Plague

Too true. Whenever someone starts bemoaning the decline of the loveable prairie dog, I always offer them some of ours. As many as you can catch! They're yours! Repopulate to your hearts content, so long as it's not around here.

    Plague

Plague has been in prairie dog populations for years... The big deal was that this was in a national park, which obviously is where people tend to concentrate in larger numbers than in surrounding areas.

The National Call To Kill The Death Tax

Guys, every civilized society since the dawn of time has had taxes. Taxes aren't just for the "have nots" (I assume the complaint here is welfare?), they also support our road systems, our military, public education, municipal buildings and operations, hospitals, police departments, etc, etc...

The National Call To Kill The Death Tax

And yet Bill Gates thinks the death tax should be kept in place. PS: Because Gates and Warren Buffet think it's fine as is, for the same reason I do... Does that mean they have class envy too?

The National Call To Kill The Death Tax

RR, you might not realize this little secret, but we all pay taxes. And just like someone pays more taxes on their Lexus than I do on my Metro, if they have enough of an estate to incur the death tax... Well, that's the American way.

The National Call To Kill The Death Tax

I guess I'm with TSR on this--Why not let those who can afford it pay it?

    WATER GAPS

The lesser half came up with a perfectly brilliant idea I thought. (Though he hasn't needed to implement it yet this year). He only has one water gap to worry about, but exactly your complaint, anything that hangs off the fence ends up washing out the fence when it piles full of debris when the...

The most unusual event on your farm/Ranch ?

We had one of those this spring... If I remember right, though, it was just a single, not a twin.

    The wind is here

I just Googled, out of curiosity, and 38 isn't even the wet corner of Illinois. In the southern tip it's more like 48! That just blows my mind!

    The wind is here

 Average for us is 16-18. I think we'd all drown at 38...

    CRP questions

We're considering buying a half section that's currently (mostly) in CRP. Actually, 80 acres are in wheat and the rest in CRP. It's enrolled until 2007, but has supposedly been extended for two years beyond that. Since we just ranch, I've never had more than a passing aquaintance with CRP...

    HELL I GIVE UP

100 acres?! Shee-ooot... That's my kids' sandbox. Seriously though, if you can't find her in a small pasture like that, she must have jumped the fence, huh?

    Ranch Roping

I think you're right jinglebob. There aren't too many opportunities to neighbor anymore. We tend to think one needs to hang on tight to the few that are left. I don't particularly care how someone else runs their show either, but we're going to do it the old-fashioned way as long as possible! :)

    Ranch Roping

My husband's is a 50-footer. He always says he needs a long rope because by the time he realizes, "hot dog I caught something!" he'd run out of rope to dally with a shorter one.
