    welder ?

Working in the oilpatch, I come across alot of stuff that is magnetized. An old timer once told me to wrap my ground lead counter-clockwise atleast 5 wraps around the end of the magnetized pipe and then clamp the ground on. Seems to help. Tex

    welder ?

Lots people think newer is better, but this is'nt necessarily true when it comes to welders. The best engine powered welders will have an armiture that is wrapped completely in copper. Out of my welders, the one that welds the best and is my favorite is a 1944 model Lincoln SA200. This is the...

    welder ?

Way to go on your find RA. The Lincoln "Tombstone" is a good little welder to start out with. I have been welding professionally for over 20 years now. Welding took me allover the country until I finally found the right spot to settle. Now, eventhough we are running our own stock, I am still...

    My turn

There is a guy over there who is supposed to be really good at braiding rawhide. I spoke with him a couple years back. Unfortunately, I cant remember his name. In Wyoming terms, our place aint too far away. We are south of Gillette along the Belle Fourche. Tex

    Solid or "Wyoming style" windbreak

We have one in our big pasture. Not many trees to hide behind around here, so most ranches have what you are talking about. Tex

Ivermectin for the World Travelers !

I remember years ago, i accidentally got a healthy dose of Ivomec pour on and was a little worried. The vet, who was a very good friend, told me not to worry. He said that eventhough they couldnt do it here, Ivomec had a very healthy business in third world countries marketing their product for...

    Soapweed?

I wish I had known. I would have met you in Gillette and bought you a burger. We are only about 25 miles south. We got an invite today for the nephews wedding in Ranchester. Sounds like yall had a good trip. I always wanted to put a horse in Clark's sale in May. Tex

    I LOVE NURSEMATE ASAP

We use it as well. Thankfully we have had fairly decent weather so far this year and the calving has gone well. I did have a couple of hiccups with the angoras though. One doe just quit mothering her kids and I did'nt catch it in time to save both. We lost one and I brought the other in to the...

    Custom Western Saddle Makers

The last I heard, Dave Pollat from Upton, Wy is taking no new orders and has'nt been for a while. He is one of the best though. The last one I had built was by a guy here in town who shoes horses. He started doing leather and is one of the best I have seen. His name is Justin Beishuvel in...

Technical Assistance Needed On Ranch Life

Thankyou Soapweed. I am a very avid reader, or a bookworm to some. I read all genres as long as they can keep me interested. Stories about ranch life or cowboyin, either historic or modern day, true or fiction, it don't matter. I prefer historic true type writing when I can find it though. Tha's...

Technical Assistance Needed On Ranch Life

Although I tend to agree with the others on writing what you know about, I commend you for atleast trying to get it right by asking. That being said, I was born and raised in NE Texas and grew up ranching there. I would be happy to answer your questions and help you out as best I can. There are...

    Strange Weather

It was 74 yesterday here in NE Wyoming. Today it's 64 and no wind. We are moving the bred heifers in close this afternoon. They should start calving any day and the cows start April 1. This weather definetly has us spooked. Kinda sad that as ranchers we cant enjoy nice spring weather. We are...

    How Will This Pencil

When I lived in Montana I had the pleasure of getting to know some Hutterites. If the rest of the country spent as much time worrying more about the whole instead of just themselves, things would be alot nicer. They do what needs done without complaint. They put family and community first. They...

    Saddle size? Do you notice..

It's a little crude but I'll tell you what an old cowboy told me on saddle size and stirrup length. To check saddle size- While sitting down in the saddle you should be able to fit your fist between your nuts and the swells with no problem. To check stirrup length- while standing in the...

    Saddle size? Do you notice..

In all seriousness though, the style of saddle will also determine comfort in different seat sizes. When I've got rough riding to do, I will ride my 16" association tree. Anything smaller in an assoc. tree is too uncofortable for me. I bought the "Hostile Native" a wade that is 15" or 15 1/2"...
