quiet wean nose flaps -day 5

Calves are quiet, cows are quiet. Udders are nearly gone... One thing that didn't change so far and that is the mother calf bond. They are still travelling in pairs, laying in pairs and keeping tabs of each other. I am afraid that when I do separate them I may find them only half weaned.. I...

    Crazy Bull

Last year I bought a dozen full blood Simmentals. They were all light yellow. They mixed in quite well with my mainly gert herd but all the other cows were dark red to medium red. The first 2 light yellow Simmental calves born set off the normally quiet gert cows. I think they thought the first...

    Fertile heifer

I have 2 three year olds that are going to drop their 3rd calf soon. One of them stayed on the smaller side and the other is one of the bigger cows. Those accidental teen pregnancies can be a real worry but sometimes it works.

NR, I think Jillaroo means cows naturally have hormones.

    O-NO-MORE testimonial

I know you are not allowed to bring across "injectables" So I still have to pay my vet 50 bucks to vaccinate my cat with a syringe I can buy for $3.50 at Big R. The animal protein is surely just dried meat ( lungs spleen tonsils) isn't it? They wouldn't put any forbidden spinal cord in there...

    O-NO-MORE testimonial

Brother in law picked it up for us when he was in the Grand U. S of A, so I haven't had to look for it yet. We usually go south to load up on cattle supplies once or twice a year to get stuff we can't get up here. New fly tags, generic Ivomec, jiffy corn muffin mix, gallon jugs of Franks Hot...

    O-NO-MORE testimonial

I used it for the first time this spring with great success. One was a rejected twin that I placed on a different cow that lost her calf, and another was an orphan that was put on a cow that gave birth to a dead backward calf 2 weeks before. If the cow doesn't lick all the Oh No More off, the...

Is 77 lbs a big calf for a Charolais heifer?

I thought you were being sarcastic. :-) Some of those Brahma sired continental dam crosses can be huge! 77 pounds is a peanut.

Great stories! I have heard of more than one cow giving herself a hysterectomy and living to tell about it. Its amazing what a cow can survive. The madder the cow, the better her chances, it seems.

Has anybody ever seen this? (viewer discretion)

She goes back to herefords on both sides! no just kidding... She's Santa Gertrudis and her mother (6) had twins twice and we still have her. We haven't had a uterine prolapse here in over 25 years. A few vaginal ones here and there though.... Quite a shock to go out and find that. The calf...

Has anybody ever seen this? (viewer discretion)

In the 35 years I have been calving cows this is a first. This was a first calf heifer. At feeding time I noticed her with a kink in her tail in the hay line eating, while I was watching another calf to make sure it was actually nursing and not just sucking skin, hind leg etc. All was well so...

    Cattle limit down

Yes live prices are still holding, but the technical chart is making a flag so I am a wee bit cautious.

    Cattle limit down

Live and feeder cattle are limit down for 2 days now. Wonder when it will taper off? Sure glad I sold my calves on Monday. How did I know?
