    pinkeye!!

A year ago in June we went to a cafeteria mineral & vitamin program. We saw an immediate elimination of pinkeye in the first bunch of around 200 heifers we put on it. This season we put a set of fall calvers on. Again no pinkeye and well shed off. Although all the products are consumed, the most...

    pinkeye!!

Every time we handle our yearlings we vaccinate for pinkeye. We use the local strain that our vet has made for this area. We also use a vaccine off the self, I believe, Bov Eye. In fact we mix them and give a 4ml dose. That really reduces it but, as you say4D, we still had more cases than we...

August 2013 Drovers Journal: What is the ideal cow size?

A few months ago, as I was going to one of our places just up the road I had a real " photo temptation". The local co-op's big feed truck was pulling out of the drive. right against the "Grown on Grass" sign. He had to stop and wait on me, it would have made quite the picture............But, I...

    RFID Tags

If YOU can use it in YOUR operation, by all means go for it. As far as any value downstream, not so much. When I get cattle with them in I cut them out and through them in the wood stove. To me they are just ear tags I can't read.

Is the devil in the details?

In MO , the third largest cow-calf state, there are around 65000 cow owners.I am assuming in the brand states that each owner has a brand registered to his name. If that be the case, in MO alone it would be nearly impossible to register a distinctive brand for every producer. The complexity of...

    More on JBS

I believe Chandler Keys ,former NCBA employee, has a position with JBS. If I remember right Keys lobbied for NCBA or at least worked out of the DC office. I'd say he knows his way around the legislature.

Who stands the loss on a deal like this? Does the government pay the value of the animals? Does the lab have some liability? Just wondering.
